I didn't love this one. It was fine, but there's not much to get excited about.

They finally tie up most of the hanging threads from the last book, albeit with a massive deus ex machina resolution which comes from nowhere at the end of the book. A bit too tidy, but I guess it had to be after the mess they'd made.

Some coincidences are getting a bit silly. Even after Nemesis Games there's what? 15 billion people in the system? And we're still running into random extras from previous books instead of new characters.

Next one should be good though, about time they got on with the more interesting aliens/Laconia story!

The weakest of the series so far. Really meandering. Way too many point of view characters. Almost felt more like a short story anthology than a novel.
Spoiler Ending seemed like a literal Deus Ex Machina with Oh... we figured out how to trick The Big Bad Fleet of ships that destroyed the Earth through an alien artifact that will destroy them and leave us safe for now. It was so anticlimatic.

The book is a bit strange - there are many irrelevant chapters (and as I'm now reading the following book I'm pretty confident they are irrelevant) and then a huge amount of action and plot happens in the space of a few chapters.

It's a good book but it just feels slow in some parts and rushed in others. Better than Cibola Burn but worse than Nemesis Games.

As always, The Expanse series continues to be a compelling exploration of the ingenuity and persistence of people in the most adverse conditions. And how working together can solve most, if not all, of the problems the Universe throws at us.

Can't wait for the next one.
