This was my favorite one, because it pulled the pieces together a bit and explained the connection to the original series, but I'm still left feeling a bit "meh" about the whole thing, which is disappointing when I remember enjoying the original series so much

Admittedly, it has been a VERY long time since I read the original Fruits Basket manga. In fact, it was one of the first series that I ever read and purchased copies of myself (my local library couldn't get them in quickly enough for me...and I'm fairly certain it is why that same library director has a hatred of long manga series). With that in mind, this is an all encompassing opinion on the this series as a whole...

My love for the series was rekindled when I heard that Fruits Basket Another was happening and I looked forward to reading it.
All for naught.
I wasn't overly impressed with these three volumes. In my opinion, nothing happened. We meet a girl whose Mom is a terrible person. By the end of the series, she's STILL dealing with her Mom being a terrible person and the Sohma's haven't necessarily helped her out in anyway other than by being friends. What good are friends when your mother is psychologically abusing you?

Also, we never got more than peeks at the OG cast of characters in Flashback style montages, or silhouettes when the parents or the Zodiac curse past is mentioned. For instance, am I HONESTLY supposed to believe that Tohru Honda WOULDN'T show up at that school festival just because her son didn't invite her, dragging Kyo along with her so they could be supportive of their son?!

Anyway...I suppose for a three volume cash grab, it wasn't terrible. But it wasn't great either. I'll be re-reading the original series this year, and maybe I'll give this one another go with fresh perspective, but...I'm not holding my breath.

I enjoyed this, but I don't feel like we got a real story conclusion. Too many loose ends.

I have to say that I enjoyed this one the most out of all three volumes so far. Now, it's still a bit all over the place and I've given up on trying to pair the kids with the parents. But we learned some secrets and I can get a better understanding for why they befriended Sawa. I'm getting a vibe from Sawa and Shiki and I'm all for it if it turns into a relationship. I know he's younger than her, but their interactions are pretty cute.

This volume ends saying that it's the final one but since then, the author announced they are releasing a volume four in December. As we know, I'm going to pick it up.
