I don't know how I'm feeling about this series right now. I think that Takaya is very good at crafting individual emotional scenes that really tug on your heartstrings, but I think a lot of the outside circumstances of this series make it less charming than the original Fruits Basket. The age gap between Shiki and Sawa, while not explicitly romantic feels a bit weird. I definitely don't feel as connected to these characters.
ALSO if my friends told me they only became friends with me in order to heal someone else's emotional issues I would be pissed. It seems like it should have set Sawa back. <spoilers>

I don't think this volume was as strong as the others, but I still love it none the less.

I feel the series is getting stronger but can’t shake the annoying feeling of matchmaking and forced romance, rather than it gently developing.
The plot feels quite artificial, rather than where things develop naturally

I liked this, but it felt a bit rushed. I hope Takaya gets the chance to write more because I feel like a full serialization would be pretty great. Still feel super weird about the "romance", but I mean nothing really happened with that so I guess it's fine. I don't know I feel like there just wasn't enough space for everything to happen so hopefully there's more volumes eventually.

The series is a little hard to follow at times but overall enjoyable.
