I don’t feel like I can rate this book, given that I skimmed some chapters and skipped others entirely. The intro and conclusion were the most compelling parts, but they claimed a thesis that didn’t actually seem evident in the chapters themselves. But, now I know that Roger Casement was a size queen ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So dry. The last Goodreads winner that I read and it was a chore.
Honestly, disappointing. Someone recommended it to me so I decided to check it out.
I learned after it was a podcast and was formatted more or less like one to the point, I'd rather just listen to any podcast instead.
There were no overarching themes or depth to any of the historical figures mentioned. Yet similar themes were mentioned throughout especially colonialism/empire yet it lacked a focus to truly paint a historical image to bring it all together.
And the authors I think had trouble translating their humor to this medium. None of the jokes landed without a good line read (and overall felt like they were trying too hard to make the narrative more 'accessible').

What an incredible book! It took me a while to finish it because I am NOT a history gal, but the history within these pages very nearly turned me into one. I wish more queer women had been highlighted though!
