Lacks pace at times and feels like it hops around bizarre discussion points.

And trust- every single chapter will let you know that “homosexuality was illegal at the time”.

The more recent stories such as Ronnie Kray and Jack Saul were definitely fascinating reads however.

My question is this: apart from the literal Nazis, were any of these "bad gays" really that terrible? The premise of this is certainly promising, but the inconsistency of the degree of atrocities committed doesn't help the core argument running through the book.

4.5 stars rounded up! Well researched and interesting, though I’m not sure why certain figures were picked over others or what the connecting string is between them, besides them all being queer & having influence on society. The cohesiveness of the project as a whole was a little shaky, as in im not sure why the authors chose the figures they chose as opposed to other ones, since I believe this list could probably be much longer, but overall well done and I loved learning about different aspects of queer history and intriguing & complex figures who influenced the way certain things are today.

Underbar!!!
