Thought-provoking, brimming with important criticism and at times just plain fun!

i don’t want to get into it. this book was so vulgar and cringe. it’s a massive shame because i genuinely found the information incredibly interesting, and i’ve been looking forward to reading this for months.
but i just couldn’t stand the way it was written, and i had to end up skipping the end of some chapters because i just wanted to move on

This took me awhile to read because it is dense and covers much territory, and I'm not sure I feel like it is quite coherent in the end in terms of its thesis, but it certainly does a good job of showing how "bad gays" throughout history have had an impact on world cultures, politics, and the development of the idea of a homosexual identity itself. The chapters on Weimar Berlin and Roy Cohn and J Edgar Hoover made me want to take a shower, so vivid was the picture painted of their hypocrisy.
ahh !!
i love this book sm!! a fascinating portrayal of how imperialism, racism, colonialism tie in with white homosexuality!! this has broadened my understanding of western culture and history— as well as historiography and LGBT studies
also, it makes me want to read the entire bibliography— so well done !

thought I was going to read something more rich in new and maybe controversial information but this is pretty standard if you know a bit about queer personalities. also disappointed that there's only one lesbian and one non white person in the roaster. interesting read but honestly nothing new

I wish there was more focus on women, non-binary, and trans people in history.
