Brave lion cub, clever Baboon, and oracle elephant - their stories form the basis of this quest book, the first in a new series.

Lots of politics, uncertainty and change.

Listened to this with the kids. The story - with a lion main character and baboons in the secondary role - is a good series read for anyone who likes other Erin Hunter books (Warriors, Seekers) or Spirit Animals. Characters are realistic (well, I mean, they are anthropomorphized animals, but other than that...) and the twists and turns are interesting. I was frustrated that the novel did not really come to an end - read the next book, kids! - but my children tell me that this is how these series work, and they were unconcerned. Now to find the next one...

I really wanted to like this book. I honestly did. I love Warriors so much and have enjoyed Seekers. I have not read Survivors yet but I figured that Bravelands would be good. I was wrong.

This book was a slog to get through. I just could not get attached to the characters. I suppose I am getting too old for books like these even though I do enjoy Warriors quite a bit.

I loved this. I really liked the story and just how fun this book was to read. I love reading books told from the perspective of animals. Especially by Erin Hunter they're always such good books

Oh my goodness! This book was amazing! It had romance, mystery, suspense, action, etc., all in one amazing book! It is a teeny tiny bit like The Lion King but barely. I found myself shocked once I was at the end of the book. I didn't want it to end! I absolutely cannot wait for the next one! I highly recommend that any animal lovers pick up this book. Th Erin Hunters' books are not just for children. They are for kids and adults alike. Honestly I think any animal lover or Disney fan would like their books. They are so engrossing and have such a good plot!

This is the first book in Erin Hunter's latest series, Bravelands. I was expecting such good things from this series, as it features a lion, a baboon and an elephant on the great plains of Africa. And I did receive those good things, just not in the way I was expecting.
Fearless's courage and perseverance are definitely admirable, and I love how he was aptly named. He performed many great feats throughout this novel!
Thorn's loyalty and determination make me want to be more like him, and his faith in him and Berry is so cute. I really hope he gets what he deserves!
I also really hope that Sky knows how to handle her destiny, and that she pulls through for everyone, as I feel like she has a long road ahead of her.

I assumed that the characters would all meet at the start of the novel, so the fact that they didn't was kind of a let-down for me. I suppose it all is set up nicely for the next book though! Can't wait to see their relationships blossom, and see what adventures they all get into.
There were a few plot twists for me throughout this book, and also a bit of anger deep inside at the whole cheetah thing, as well as the murder thing. That surprised me so much! Poor Fearless and Thorn :( I don't agree with how Thorn changed at the end though, that really decreased things for me. Denial is one of the things I hate in stories. I want it all to work out though! Will be picking up the second novel soon!

So far I like this a lot. Um.... The characters are great. the story works well, Titan is obnoxious, The whole package.... I like this book and if the whole series progresses well, this could be as good as the better Warriors series.

It's a promising first book. There are three points of view so far, so there's never really a boring moment. I just wonder if this will be a regular 6 book arc, because so much has already happened just in this first book alone.

I know Seekers had a similar feeling in their first book, and to me the series really fell after that, especially during the second arc (and that series is no longer being written). Bravelands is a promising series; I just hope it doesn't suffer the same way Seekers did. I am not sure that Erin Hunter books hold the same momentum for consumers when the characters are wild creature species as opposed to domestic ones (i.e., cats and dogs). I hope this series does well.
