I picked this up for the first time since I was 18 after feeling incredibly saddened by the Andrea's death. Their writing has such beautiful heart and sentiment and joy.
I remember being so enthralled with it as a teenager, but it has been really interesting to look back at it now and see what I chose to underline back then. A lot has happened for me in the last 5 years in terms of general life experience and perspective, the first time I read this I was still a girl and so much of my queerness still felt theoretical, and I've really enjoyed rereading and being moved in different ways. The lines that hit me were different this time

Reading this I felt so heard. I felt like someone understood me without me having to tell them and exacerbate my pain more.
Andrea Gibson is sure to become my next favorite author. I cannot wait to read more of her work. Lord of the Butterflies is my new favorite book and I don’t know if it will ever be dethroned.

This was an extremely well put together collection of LGBT poetry, and I was really moved by it! I think Gibson really nailed the balance of personal insight and education about the LGBT community, and they have given a lot of people a voice to relate to in poetry. I would highly recommend for poetry and LGBT book lovers!
wonderful! andrea gibson's words are alive and humming with energy. honest, heart-forward, vulnerable. lots of upsetting poems about 2018 US politics and personal tragedies -- made me cry. but worth it for the beautiful love poems and the vibrant aliveness.
