“Come, love, make me better than I was.
Come teach me a kinder way to say my own name.”
Did a fun departure from my usual reading queue and tested out some poetry. Trying to get more into it, and overall I think this was a great start as it was accessible and relevant.
I will say, I think Andrea is too millenial for me and a lot of this pertained to a different era of queer experience and I often found it not relatable. Sometimes a phrase would be so cringey it would pull me out of the entire poem.
But when it hits, it hits. Specifically the poems on what it feels like to not be comfortable in your own body, the dissociation from your own skin, and the idea of the soul missing the flesh; all of that really resonated, and I’m definitely open to flexing more of my poetry muscles in the future.
