This was a strong 5 star read for me... until the last 30ish pages. I felt the ending to be pretty predictable, and wish that it went in a different direction. Overall, I still loved this book. And stayed up past 2am to finish it!

This is a very very sloooooow burn. For me, the most interesting part of the plot did not pick up until about halfway through. Although I didn't feel too connected to the characters, I kept reading because I was genuinely curious about what was going on on this island. I couldn't figure it out. In the end, it was pretty satisfying. Satisfying as in it made sense. I found the characters to be just okay. I didn't care about them too much or their relationship history. Granted some of their relationship history had some plot twists that got me. I will say the author did and a bunch of heavy topics in the story that I wasn't expecting to be as detailed, so I suggest checking trigger warnings for this.

All in all it was an okay read.

I liked a lot about this book, but it still wasn’t very good. The writing was rough and the characters made decisions that no human would ever make. However! I liked the set up and where the story went, and I liked the horror aspects a lot. It was so so so close to being a good book.

I had high hopes for this book and maybe that's why it feel short for me. The last half I enjoyed a lot more than the first half.
