I genuinely really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down! I did read reviews before starting it and I was worried about “the weird turn it takes” but I actually enjoyed it. Some of the nature aspects of the story reminded me of The Ruins by Scott Smith which I also really enjoyed. I liked the character backstories which parts of it was predictable but there was a twist I didn’t see coming.

This started off so good and it then it got so corny LMFAO I have to laugh. The beginning was pretty good, starting off with some creepy things happening at a remote cabin that is on an island in lake superior. The atmosphere was good, and I really enjoyed all the interesting satanic and witchy stuff happening. It was good! I was actually getting nervous and anxious. The claustrophobia and then setting and the creepy things. And then…..
IT GOT SO CORNY! Oh my god the fall off needs to be studied. I absolutely hate when characters all know something that the reader doesn’t. It really grinds my gears that it gets referenced but cut off until there’s this big reveal. I hated the big reveal, it was so random? I feel like she just pulled it out of her hat. It didn’t make a lot of sense to me and I felt like it wasn’t needed for the story. The characters were not appealing, they’re super juvenile despite being adults and no one makes good decisions. “Omg my niece i need to protect her!” AND WHY IS ANYONE STILL ASSOCIATING WITH SADIE???? And then keeps forgetting about her? I cannot. And then ending? CRINGE I kept giggling lmfao the whole monologue from the “villain” I kept laughing. Such a cop out and completely ruined the beginning of the book. I didn’t even feel bad about it, none of the characters were endearing or likable.

Ack. It gets a 2 only because of the narrator of the audiobook. So many things going on here. Way, way too many things and then zombies! Inconsistent character development.
