Enjoyed it! Started watching Killing Eve, but realized it was based off a book so I paused the show until I could finish the book.
Even this book I think started as a collection of novellas and there are some points where expansion would have been warranted. And some of the situations stretch plausibility, at least in the world that I live in. Of course, I'm not a spy, an assassin, or tasked with catching either.
There was a moment where Villanelle, whose native language is Russian (I think?), sits down for a meeting with an associate. He says something to her in Russian then provides the translation. Why would a native speaker need the translation? That took me out. The reader needs the translation so you work it around to Eve. Or someone that doesn't speak Russian fluently.
The low bar has been cleared and I can now watch the show in peace.

Having just finished watching Season 3 of Killing Eve on Netflix and needing to wait for a while until the next season, I had decided to explore the original books. Book 1 actually comprises four eBook novellas of between 36 to 56 pages in length in one edition. Having grown tired of overly long modern thrillers I loved breezing through those four stories. This is a quick and fast paced read that differs often quite extensively from the TV adaptation.
It is written in the present tense, something I usually can only stomach in very rare circumstances in fiction. Here, it didn't bother me too much (especially as the background info that was being established was of course in the more traditional past tense) but I did feel that it took me a bit out of the plot which is ironic given that the intended use was very likely to have you more immersed in it as if it was happening right here and now.
Still, no regrets and will definitely continue with the remaining books.

I prefer the show (wow) but I really enjoyed the book too!

I chose this book because I wanted to watch the series. Well-written and suspenseful, I didn’t want to to end. If you love spy stories and violence, this book is for you. Fast, short read.
I know this is a series and therefore we can't have all of the story unfold at once but I thought this book would be better than it actually was. Not bad, just meh.
Last year, the whole craze of the BBC series Killing Eve passed me by, but I did hear that the books were better - aren't they always!
Well, I still cannot compare the book to the TV series, as yet, but I certainly enjoyed this book very much.
Villanelle, the assassin, is a sociopath, but you find yourself drawn into her story and rooting for her in a strange way. Eve, the security officer is tasked with tracking Villanelle down, but this job will certainly be a game of cat and mouse and I am not sure who will win. I look forward to seeing how the story unfolds.
