A gut wrenching, complicated, hopeful, heartbreaking love story and reflection on the tensions between love and morality, the affects of abuse, and complex family dynamics. The pace and nonlinear structure gave reflection on the impact of certain life experiences. At first, I wondered how the storyline could fill so many pages but by the last 100 pages I was longing for more in the best way!

This was one of those books where by like page 50 I wasn’t sure I liked it, but I was hoping it would get better. By page 150, I knew I knew I didn’t like it but I wanted to keep going. It felt a bit like rubber necking at a car accident. There were some pieces of history that felt unnecessary and just gratuitously added to make it clear that there had been trauma.
