Really enjoyed the Audiobook reading.
I am already looking forward to the next book in the series as I'm invested in how all their love lives tangle and untangle.
Was hoping for Beatrice would figure her stuff out sooner. Seemed like there was some progress with that until the very end. Hoping for a happily ever after for her.
Samantha is fun and I like her character.
Jeff needs to pay attention more and wake up to what is happening around him. Nina needs to grow a backbone.
Daphne is the very worst sort of brat so I'm hoping karma gets her in the future.

My expectations for this book were that it would be dramatic, quick, light and entertaining. Some of these expectations were met, others weren't. I enjoyed the story, though I feel like the world buildling was a bit lacking. But while I read the book fairly quickly, there were parts that felt a little slow to me. I feel like this book could easily have been a lot shorter, and that sort of took away from my enjoyment a little.

There was also just a little too much miscommunication to cause drama for my taste. But I did enjoy the drama quite a bit. It was a bit over the top, but that was pretty much what I expected from it. It reminded me of a dramatic TV show made for teens, which I don't think was by accident. I could easily imagine this becoming a TV show in the future.

I really am curious about what will happen next, so will pick up the sequel when it comes out.

Too long. Got bored. Skimmed.

And here we are.

Will not continue.

A fun easy read! Super interesting to think about what america would be like as a monarchy! Can’t wait to read the sequel.

lighthearted relaxing medium-paced

I really needed a teen soap opera set in an alternate universe that could never happen but is still a fun thought experiment - what if George Washington became America's first king instead of the first president? It's got scandals, betrayals, furtive first kisses, angst, forbidden love, parental secrets, subtrifuge, skullduggery, money-motivated life choices, and more.

Look, it's not canonical literature. Neither are the characters all that likeable or even believable at times. But it's a fun romp, ok, and we're all allowed to have a good time.
