I LOVE THIS MF BOOK THANK U MISS ICON CHLOE GONG I LOVE UR INSTAGRAM STORIES

I think the point of Romeo and Juliet was to show the fate of two young, innocent lovers and how stupid the rivalry was that got them killed. The story would have been much different if they were actively antagonizing each other and holding up the blood feud like Roma and Juliette. This robs their relationship of the tragedy because they are no longer victims of their situation, they are the perpetrators of prolonging the feud. It's hard to root for Roma and Juliette

in in my opinion Romeo and Juliet>>>>>>these violent delights

a small thing but I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator- I really didn't like how she narrated Kathleen

i re-read this in preparation for the release of Our Violent Ends….. Chloe Gong you are a GENIUS and this book is a masterpiece.

let me just start by saying how interesting the premise is… you have a Romeo and Juliette retelling set in 1926 Shanghai ?? AND there’s a mysterious monster lurking in the water that forces our two protagonists—sexy enemies who used to be lovers—to cooperate and solve the mystery together ?? say less !

Juliette is one of the best female YA protagonists i have ever seen, i love her so so much <3 she’s just so cool ?? and the romance had me screaming, i’m obsessed with romajuliette. i usually end up disappointed when a book is advertised as enemies-to-lover because there’s always something off, whether it be the lack of tension, the fact that they get together too quickly…. but here, the author did it so perfectly and i’m especially excited to see how the relationship evolves in book two, because they definitely haven’t stopped being enemies….

also, thank you miss Gong for giving us so much diversity !! i love how she casually included a trans side character, it was so interesting to learn about her story especially given the setting of the book ! and don’t even get me started on the Marshall/Benedikt couple because i could scream about them for hours….. i was shaking and throwing up reading the epilogue I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THEM !!

anyway, Chloe Gong can do no wrong i would literally read her groceries list if had access to it…. everyone go read this book RIGHT NOW and hurry because the sequel comes out next week :D

A new way to retell Romeo and Juliet but ended really well and I’m excited to read the next book.
