Had potential and moments that were good, but overall I don't know if I liked it. It was slow and then a lot happening but leading to nothing. I felt bored a lot. This one was not for me.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc.

I received an arc audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Immediately upon starting this audiobook, I was thrown off by the quality of the sound. The narrator sounds like she is reading in a tunnel and not a recording studio. At times, you could hear the echo of previous words said. It was very distracting, and I had to take a break from this book. I looked into renting the library e-book, but it would take forever to get it, so I finally returned to the audiobook but did not enjoy it at all. The quality is not anything like other audiobooks I have listed to.
The story is a different retelling of Sleeping Beauty without following the same storyline. It was also interesting that it is a male character that is put to sleep versus the standard damsel in distress. I love the fact the author mentioned some of my favorite books!
Overall, I give this book three stars due to the quality of the audiobook and not really enjoying it. Had I read the story myself, I probably would have loved it more.

I really enjoyed this take on sleeping beauty. It is definitely a version I've never heard of. It was very good. I enjoyed the people and the relationships between them. The relationship between mother and son is sad, and I felt bad for him. I do like that Jade fell in love and was able to get a happy ending. I can't wait to read the next book as the ending is so cute and makes you want to read more.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. I like the concept of it, the dystopia elements mixed with fantasy elements were very cool. I am very into fairytale retellings, so this being a 'twisted take on Sleeping Beauty' was right up my alley. The characters were easy to engage with and I liked Jade as the protagonist. I am very interested to see how this what happens in the next book as there wasn't a clear direction at the end of book one. I think I will put the second one on my list of books to look into. This was worth the read for me!

I received this book from YA Bound Book Tours in return for a fair and honest review.
This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty but instead of the princess lying asleep in her tower, she's actually a guard for the 'evil' queen, without emotion so she doesn't have any 'weaknesses' such as hope, fear, affection etc. Through a mixture of circumstances, she sees the missing Prince and one thing leads to another before the queen sends her on a covert mission.
This is a fun-filled adventure with some humorous parts as well as more emotional impacts along the way. I loved how the relationship developed and grew between Jade and Asher. It is well-written and the pace is steady.
If you like the current re-telling trend along with humour, action and a touch of romance, then I can definitely recommend this book. Looking forward to book 2!

Dnf. Reminds me of a Marie Lu in a way I seem to be very over.
I was going to give this 3 but the last page made me give it a 2.5. Pretty inoffensive. I like the idea but not the insta-love. Can't help thinking it could have done with padding out and having a lot more from New York before the curse.
adventurous
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
Character
Had kind of a slow start (I was NOT expecting the dystopian setting and that threw me off at first), but it gradually grew on me.
DNF - PG 16
Why?
I promise you, this one was all my fault. It shall serve as a lesson to me to pay better attention to what I'm wanting to read. I decided I wanted to read this book what feels like ages ago now. Very much before I realized dystopian is even further away from what I enjoy to read than urban fantasy.
I sat down and tried to read this even though I should have looked closer at it before then. If I had, I probably would have just politely ignored it. But, nooo, I thought it was sci-fi/romance.
Anyway, seems inventive but there's just too many of the tropes from dystopian books that I don't like here.
