I'm a plot reader who usually struggles with reading poetry, but not this time. I found (most of) the poem to be hugely compelling and entertaining. It made me quite emotional too, at times. A wonderful translation.

Not as good as the Odyssey but still a classic story

1) I finished this! I did it! I shall tell people about this feat of strength.
2) Pretty impressive that everything rhymes.
3) I liked the movie 'Troy' better. Hector and Achilles are not very charismatic. Nor are they nice.
4) Everything would have been resolved SO much quicker if the Gods just didn't interfere all the time.
5) Gods are so fickle. How many times did some of them switich sides. Yes, Zeus, I'm talking about you here.
6) Just because the Gods really like you, don't mean they won't help kill you. Sorry, Hector!
7) Helen is a little shit, isn't she? Kingdoms fought over her and she seems more in love with Hector than Paris. I mean. Dealbreaker for me.

Worth the slog. Books 1-13 were tough to get through, but as soon as book 14 hits it is game on.

Not a great translation.

Audiobook translated by Emily Wilson and Narrated by Audra McDonald.

First time reading something like this. Can't say I enjoyed very much, even felt like a chore at moments, but I wanted to get through it. Idk, just the feeling of reading a text so old, whether I enjoyed it or not, it felt something special, something more than just your normal book. I can't explain it, you either get it or don't.

Also, it's not all tedious. Contrary to many things I heard before reading The Iliad, the first few chapters (or books) were my favorite, when it wasn't all about fighting and stuff. It's the middle section which bored me. The last few chapters with Achilles were quite enjoyable. And I liked all the banter between with the Gods, especially their quarrel with Zeus.

I'll read the Odyssey, but I need a break. Reading them back to back would be insane.
