This was really annoying and boring.

#6 - 2021
Genre: YA Contemporary

Short read, I just didn’t feel like there was a purpose. This young teen is having such a life changing summer, too many life changes going on at once. Everyone in her life doesn’t seem to be paying attention to the main character until something happens towards the end. No wonder the young teen finds solace in the sister’s Ex.

the story wasn't that interesting, but i liked how it was written (the story wasn't about the person who's head we're in)

I didn't like this the same way I've liked her other books. It was fine, but I didn't feel like there was the same kind of resolution characters in other books usually get.

was this sarah dessen's first book? this better have been sarah dessen's first book. there's no excuse otherwise.

this was like...the worst. but still sarah dessen. so not the worst?

who knows. the reread continues.

My eldest sister gave me this book to try and I’m glad I read it. But I don’t typically read non-fantasy books. It’s something different to change up mythical worlds and all but defiantly not my normal cup of tea!

If I'm being honest, I was not a fan of this book. I finished it, but pretty much only because it was short. Throughout the entire book, it really just seems that the main character, Haven, is complaining about every little change in her life and pouting about it. She doesn't talk about it or solve her problems. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd recommend this book to people.

I'm thinking this is one of Sarah's early books because it's very boring and doesn't seem as well rounded and developed as her other books. Honestly, it was quite boring.

You can definitely tell that this was Sarah Dessen's first novel--it's not nearly as long as her later ones, the characters weren't as developed or realistic or as likable as what I'm used to from her--but that in no way lessens my enjoyment of the book. It was a light summer read that still made me think, which is one of my favorite things about Sarah Dessen. That Summer is by no means a perfect book, but it was still an enjoyable read nonetheless.
