This was sort of like a popcorn read except the main girls name was spelled ridiculously and it sort of took a while to get gripped into what was going on (not hard to understand just not instantly fun) and also it was soooo obvious this was a copy cat plot of acotar 😭 not to defend acotar but like what came first help… well whatever its a “beauty and the beast retelling” except you can tell where that inspi came from. copy and paste even. and they spelled her name alix please be serious 😐 but idk it was fine

I love it when a book makes me feel all the feels. I've come to realize that I really enjoy portal romantasy books. I was entranced reading this book and couldn't put it down. It's sucked me right in. Everything about this book was addicting.
ATIEH had all my favorite tropes and the comedy from Alix that nobody understood was so funny. We had little inside jokes with Alix, lol. Alix is our fmc. Our poor girl has it rough in the beginning, but I'm so glad she got the ending she did.
Daemon, Daemon, Daemon. 🥵 He is our mmc, who has a one night stand with Alix. He then abducts her and brings her to his world in hopes that she can be the one to break the century long curse. He is possessive and obsessive. He oozes touch her and 💀 vibes. Oh, and did I mention he has WINGS. 😏
My favorite character is Odessa. She is a girls girl. "ᴅᴏ ᴡᴇ ʜᴀᴛᴇ ᴛʜᴇᴍ? ɪ ᴍᴇᴀɴ, ɪ'ᴠᴇ ᴋɴᴏᴡɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴛʀɪᴘʟᴇᴛꜱ ꜰᴏʀ ɴᴇᴀʀʟʏ ᴀ ᴄᴇɴᴛᴜʀʏ, ʙᴜᴛ ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ʜᴀᴛᴇ ᴛʜᴇᴍ, ɪ ᴀᴍ ᴛᴏᴛᴀʟʟʏ ᴏɴ ʏᴏᴜʀ ꜱɪᴅᴇ." I can't wait for her story. 🥹
When a book has amazing side characters, the story becomes even more enticing. This is the second book I've read by Kate, and I'm never left disappointed. Her writing is addicting and the stories are so incredibly well done. I can't wait for A Storm In Every Heart.

I’m a sucker for a Beauty and the Beast retelling and “A Thorn in Every Heart” by Kate King was no exception (although it’s more ‘inspired by’ then exact retelling, it’s actually more like an alternate universe sequel). I’m also a sucker for the “modern day millennial gets transported into a fairytale world” trope so it had that going for it as well!
Honestly, this book checked so many boxes for me:
Dual POV? ✅
Morally grey brooding fae MMC? ✅ Beautiful fairytale palaces? ✅
Subtle Disney references? ✅
Modern pop culture references? ✅
Cat? ✅
At its core it’s a love story [mild spoilers ahead] and there are tropes galore!! It starts with a one-night-stand quickly shifts to enemies-to-lovers (he kidnaps her!) then it shifts into a forbidden love/bodyguard situation-ship (she becomes engaged to his half brother!) but ultimately they’re fated mates! Also featuring: only one horse, found family, a spicy carriage ride, he falls first, he saves her but then she saves him, an Irish accent, a dash of “good girl” and “touch her and die” and so much PINING (I’m also a sucker for pining)
Additionally, there’s gorgeous art for every chapter (sometimes it’s spicy—read in public with caution). This was the perfect stand-alone Romantasy escape from reality and I’m looking forward to the next book on the series coming out in September!
