I knew a bit about this book going in; I think most people do thanks to the popularity and the movie based on it. And even if I didn't, I have read books about people struggling with terminal or high-fatality-rate illnesses before. I wasn't expecting a book of sunshine.
But there was sunshine. There were some moments of heartbreaking sunshine, as the mother of a girl who was lucky to make it to five watches as she has experiences that she thought she would never have, like falling in love, crying over soapies, fighting with her sister over makeup. And there is torrential rain in the medical procedures, made perhaps worse by the children who have become experts in the disease. And of course the ending. I was crying for quite a while even after I stopped reading.
I loved this book. I loved each of the characters that took control of the chapters. I loved them even in their most flawed moments. I have quite a book hangover now.

The premise had potential, but it was predictably ruined by torrents of filler and platitudes. Maybe 20% of the book was actually devoted towards the case, but even those parts didn’t seem thought-out.

Exceptionally darling. I have no idea what took me so long to finish this book. It is probably the thought that the first few chapters were so identical (a rare thing between books and its movie versions) to the movie that, although particularly engaging, it bored me.

However, I was still moved by it and I daresay that I was taken aback by its ending. I love everything about it, from Jesse, the rebelling and angsty teen who craves for attention, and his deepest and darkest thoughts to Julia, the spunky guardian ad litem, and her vulnerability when it comes to her first and only love.

I definitely recommend reading this book first before watching the movie. Both are spectacular but this gem will leave you breathless.
