I love how the author can take an entirely new world and make it seem real without much effort. I love the characters, I love the settings, I love the relationships between characters. Can't wait to read more in this series.

It took me four years to start this book and then I finished it within four days! Typical :D

This was fun! It’s a super fast paced fantasy with a VERY SLOW BURN romance! Also enemies to lovers!

I enjoyed this book, I’m not sure yet if I’m going to continue the series because it didn’t grip me as much as I would have liked, and the story is very different to what I expected but I still recommend giving this book a try if the summary seems interesting to you ^^

Issues I had with the book:

It was very fast paced, and sometimes I felt like things were rushed too much! I love fast pacing but this seemed like it was a bit too fast and there wasn’t enough conversation between characters, it’s kinda just skipped.

Only one POV; it would have been awesome to have different POVs like Kerrick or Belen, and I’m very used to multiple POVs so I felt like having only Avry was a bit boring D:

Loved everyone. It was a really fun, exciting read. What Snyder does with relationships and friendships is amazing. Avry is empowering and just. Belen is the best poppa bear in the world.

Interesting concept for the mages. I love the powers. They were very new to me and their intricacies were fascinating.

“Don’t worry," I said. "These men are good. They’re going to heal the world.” - Avry of Kazan

After months of not reading fantasy books this got me back on track! I also realized that this is also my most recent 5 star read in A WHILE!

What I fell inlove first with this book was the characters or what I love to call them - the "cavemans" (you'll know when you read it). Belen the overprotective poppa bear, the very entertaining "monkey's" Loren & Quian, Flea who thinks and acts older than his age and ofcouse we have Kerrick - the bastard. I feel like Kerrick has the most character development in this book. When i started reading this I absolutely HATED his attitude and everything about him but as the story progressed and he started changing my heart also slowly opened up to him.

Avry was such a soft-hearted and kind person that sometimes I want to go inside the book and shake her. Tell her to give more importance to her life. But shes also a strong willed character who wouldnt just stand by and watch the people close to her get hurt.

The world building and magic system is another thing that amazed me while reading this book. I felt like I was in the book with them gallivanting through the forest to get to Ryne, learning more about the magic they have and sitting front row while Kerrick and Avry argue. And let me tell you..insta-love was NOT present at all!

It was only a matter of time before I started Snyder's Power series, because I'm such a big fan of her other series. So, here's the thing: I liked it, but not as much as I liked her other series.

There's something interesting about a plague that led to healers being hunted. And all of the lilies! I liked how they were introduced and what they do and even some of the studies done on them. The history of the plague and everything that unfolded after it started popping up was really interesting and one of my favorite parts of the book.

I also liked the boarding school for nobles, and the histories between all of them. Oh, and how magic worked in this world! I really liked all of the different abilities the magicians had. There are so many different kinds of magic, and it's really cool that there's such a range in magical abilities.

The characters were fine, but I didn't feel as connected to them the way I feel connected to the characters in her other series. And while I liked this world, I also wasn't as pulled into this world as I was with her series.

Let's Rate It: I liked Touch Of Power and the different kinds of magic we see in the book. I also liked the plague and it's history (and consequences). It's definitely my least favorite book of Snyder's, but I still am curious about what will happen next. Touch Of Power gets 3 stars.

A wonderful story about a strong young woman whose unique ability to help people makes her a public enemy. Maria V. Snyder uses her sweeping style to put a strong woman in a position of impossible choices, life and death situations, poorly timed love interests with a passionate will to do the right thing. This is a very readable and comfortable book. While Poison Study remains my favorite of Snyder's nine books, Touch of Power did not disappoint and I eagerly await the two following books.

Fast paced and full of twists-and-turns adventure, yet sprinkled with humor and sarcasm...Also the main character, Avry, is a refreshingly strong, independent, yet compassionate woman who constantly puts others well being (literally) above her own. The only disappointment I felt after finishing this book was realizing I'll have to wait until 2013 for the sequel :) A must read!!

I really enjoyed this one a lot more than I expected, mostly because I liked the main characters and their interactions. The mechanics of magic are fascinating. There's a little mystery, a little romance, lots of action... Went right into the second one, waiting for the third.

I'm relieved, because I wasn't as big a fan of the last series she wrote.

I liked that pace & the overall story. Looking forward to scent of magic.
