This is my first dive back into mermaids and what a great way to start! I love Liesl’s storytelling and a dual POV always hits the right spot. We love a morally grey FMC 🥵 I can’t wait to read more from this universe!

When I started reading this I was super excited to find a mermaid book. And this book was far better than I anticipated. I absolutely loved it. It was a page turner. Trying to figure out when odissa would get what she deserves. I can’t say enough good about this book. But I do only have one question….. how do mermaids have intimate relations??

4.5* rounded up.

Of Song and Scepter reminded me a little of The Little Mermaid, if Ariel was an assassin. Odissa was like Ursula to me in how she disguised herself as someone else to marry the Prince.

I loved this from start to finish and it was very obvious right from the start how Enna and Soren felt about each other so of course I had to root for them and not Odissa. Didn't anyone tell Odissa that to win someone's heart you have to be honest and not play tricks? Of course Enna wasn't completely innocent in this but she had little choice, or at least felt like she didn't have a choice. I loved her growth as a character. I'll definitely read more of Liesl's books if they're anything like this.

An incredible read! The plot, the characters, the spice- all PERFECTION. I wish I could read it again for the first time, that’s how much I loved it!! I desperately hope this is just the first of many we get from Liesl West!

This was the first Little Mermaid retelling I've read and I enjoyed it! I loooved the world building, I was very intrigued and it was my favourite part of the book! I enjoyed the descriptions of locations and characters, and could see it all perfectly in my mind!
I really liked Enna's character, she was a great FMC, and I felt her struggles. Soren was great too (he falls first!!), and I enjoyed the change in dynamics by having a morally grey FMC instead of the MMC. I felt like theirs was an insta-love situation, but it definitely made the forbidden love trope very enjoyable!

I was left wanting to know more about the Sirens of Adria world, so I'll definitely pick up the next book in the series!

“There is nowhere you can go that I will not find you, Wicked. Even if you flee to the depths of the sea, I will follow.”

Wow what a read! This cover is beautiful, the premise of a dark retelling of The Little Mermaid. I grew up loving The Little Mermaid and this was just the ADULT retelling I needed. Liesl West’s writing had me hooked right from the start. If I didn’t have to be an adult and go to work I would have read this in 24 hours (stupid adult responsibilities…LOL) The world-building was phenomenal. I like that there are no humans, no fae JUST Merfolk that can also walk on land!

The FMC Enna is a killer in disguise and when she meets the sweet MMC Prince Soren, he falls for her and wants her to be his Queen. I love that Enna is morally grey, the banter between Enna and Soren was so entertaining. I couldn’t get enough of these two. I loved the nicknames Soren had for Enna.

I love that the author offered a spice guide in the book so you can easily skip the spicy scenes, now for me… I am here for the spice and boy does she get spicy! This is definitely a fairytale retelling solely for adults.

I can’t believe this is Liesl West’s debut novel. The reimagined take on The Little Mermaid was so captivating. I can’t wait for her next book. She is now on my auto-buy list.

Thank you to Liesl West for an early copy of the book!

Let me start with some amazing book features that more authors need to consider. A pronunciation guide (extremely useful) & a playlist (a super fun touch that made the book come alive)!

At first, I felt like I was swimming through murky waters with this read. I didn’t immediately feel hooked but something in my heart told me to keep reading and I am so glad that I didn’t put this book down!

Liesl does a wonderful job of weaving a beautifully intense story. There are many times that you think you have a lead on where the story is headed only for a drastic turn to come around a blind corner.

If you love a strong female, then you won’t be able to stop from consuming every bit of Enna’s story! Plus, a wonderful leading male, Soren, with great taste in nicknames and flair for danger!

Highly recommend this Little Mermaid inspired tale!
