James Renner has this rambling style that ends up sounding like the writing of these books is therapeutic to him even if the process isn't. It's a sort of public confessional for him. Sometimes that works, sometimes that doesn't. For me, this book was a miss. This was more James' story than Amy's. Yes, we learned about her case, but the core of the story is him trying to get the article/book written. As a true crime fan, this is disappointing to me.
That doesn't mean it can't be done well. Books like "I'll Be Gone in the Dark" are incredible and James Renner's "True Crime Addict" are great examples of it done well, but this time it just falls flat. Honestly, I should have been tipped off by the title.
Colons: The subtitle makers: By the time you have three colons it's too much.
