Wanted More: While I understand Valerie's family dynamics are due to the cult's influence etc. They felt too cartoonish and not fleshed out enough. I wasn't anticipating a redemption arc for everyone but the family relationships and time felt too flat as well as the friendship dynamics. Riley came across as too perfect vs. a good human/character with at least a reasonable flaw
Regardless, still enjoyed the main relationship and the deconstruction of forced religion and message of hope

This just made my heart happy and I got the ending I always wanted in my own life but never got.
Was it a short, over simplified book? Sure, but sometimes we don't need a realistic book that spends so long digging through complicated things.
