This book's premise seemed admittedly pretty interesting, and a new twist on the concept of time-traveling. Time traveling by bringing various real historical figures into modern-day England, and testing whether they would adapt? Neat! Did it deliver like I wanted it to? Not really.
The exploration of racism from the historical figures and dated viewpoints seemed intriguing at first, but I wish there were more complexity and exploration of that topic, rather than covering it in passing. In my opinion, there were a lot of interesting ideas that just never got fully fleshed out, which is a bummer. I was waiting for them to kick into action towards the last part of the book. The romance subplot was also not my favorite, as it felt kinda underdeveloped and just felt weird to have a romance plot with a real person from history.
I felt myself wanting to learn more about the historical aspect of the book, which surprised me because I usually don't lean into liking history. I would enjoy diving more into the time travel/sci-fi part of the book, especially due to the way the ending twisted into more science fiction rather than focused on the historical side. Not my favorite read, but still an interesting one.

loved it! usually hate (modern) romance books but i think i found one i actually like. this is more so a 3/3.5 star read but i bumped it up a star because it’s so hard for me to find a romance book i actually like. this book is my kind of romance, where the romance isn’t the main focus and the plot was so good i didn’t even care about the romance but then the romance pulled me in and made me care about it.
now i’ll be honest the last 20% i didn’t know what was going on, like i actually had absolutely no idea what was happening… but i stuck through and enjoyed it anyways
Super interesting plot, though at times the pacing felt a bit slow. I loved Commander Gore's character and I often felt sad for him. I'm hopeful that the ending was actually happy, but that might be wishful thinking.

Good premise but too much like the author is writing a fanfiction about herself. And a bit all over the place.
