YOU HURT HIM, I HURT YOU
DON'T PUSH YOUR LUCK
Spoiler
A magnet designed as a seven of spades playing card was stuck to his refrigerator, securing a piece of paper on which a message had been scrawled in black marker:YOU HURT HIM, I HURT YOU

First of all Levi’s parents met Dominic and called him his soulmate awww🥹
Then they said I love you which was so cute and amazing.
Then Dominic started gambling again omg I almost crashed out like howwww
And the way Levi found out!!!
Then the breakup????
Levi’s mom invited Dominic for Hanukkah in New Jersey and now they won’t goooo🥲💔
I’m actually scared for book 4 but book 3 was 10/10 ofc

That sex scene where Levi and Dominic has unprotected anal sex for the first time was fucking FILTHY.
I was a bit worried that Levi wasn't going to hold Dominic accountable for his actions - it seemed like Dominic was great at manipulating him into calming down, or just being his genuine decent guy self was enough. Thankfully, Levi really put his foot down. I hardly ever think about gambling addiction in the realm of actual addiction. I know it is, logically, but I'm so used to things like drugs, or even self harm being the addiction "norms." This whole series is really putting it all into perspective.
Also, SOS IS BEING POSSESSIVE, NOW???

At this point, Cordelia Kingsbridge can write me whatever and I will eat it up every
4 ouch stars
this was a painful read.
this absolutely wasn’t a this-is-so-bad-it-hurts read. i mean, it kinda was, but not in quality. this is was really well-written and gritty account on a bunch of physical altercations and a character i love relapsing into deep addiction.
i was so excited after the previous book that i refused to read the summary because i didn’t want any spoilers, but it still wouldn’t really let me know how difficult it was to read about dominic lose the war to his addiction and go on a spiral. i actually don’t advice anyone that struggles with addiction to read Cash Plays, it was rough.
it was still a really good read, even if i had to skim the pages sometimes (which docked a whole star for me), i’m still in love with this author’s work, though, and i’m already devastated that they apparently haven’t been active since 2020 (hope to god she’s alright).
the way dominic managed to articulate how difficult it was to be put on a pedestal, how he feels he’s not allowed to have bad days, is something i understand all too well... and then this book ended on a worrying note, specifically after all the progression of character for both levi and dom, and how deeply in love they are by this point. both made this a devastating read, to be honest.
but, again, i’m super excited to see where the next book is going and so happy that this series embodies so much of what i love about cop thrillers.
