Like others, I was lured by Richard Armitage co-narrating this audiobook. I kept expecting things to get better but they didn't. It felt like it was all over the place:
Sex scenes that just didn't click, flirting that was unconvincing, cliche phrases and puns that make your teeth grind. As a side note, the MMC is written as a marathon runner, by someone who has clearly never run even 50 meters in her life. Also, you write a story about how magical Paris is, and you make the MMC sign up for his first marathon in Indonesia, why? Because it's one that takes place in June, and so it will coincide with the timeline? Why not make it a marathon in Paris, where the route goes through EVERY FREAKING MONUMENT AND ATTRACTION IN THE CITY, and then a trip to Indonesia???

I felt bad for both narrators (especially Armitage) who must have been stifling laughter at the absurdity of it all.

This is so outrageously bad, that I also feel I've been unfair to every other book I've rated 1*.

A love story in Paris... Can't get enough.
With a strong female character who is 30, hell yes!
Who is trying to learn a second language so she can persue her dream. Wonderful.
Sexy male interest who knows how to treat a woman.. even hotter.
I love Lauren Blakely as an author.

“Paris is a good place for a new life. I believe Paris is where you go to reinvent yourself.”

This was just a bit of fun on audio during my workouts to feed my wanderlust. I absolutely loved going on a tour of Paris in this story and that the focus was not on the usual touristy locations but rather the quiet cobblestone streets, open air flower markets, the cafe on the corner with fresh croissants, the chocolatier showcasing artful and delectable treats, and apartments with pink doors. I was transported to the sites, sounds and scents of the city and what it would be like to live and work in Paris everyday including the challenges of learning the language. This is also a story of a friendship that grows into love.

Oh, and the other draw for me was the male narrator - Richard Armitrage, the brooding Englishman John Thornton from North and South, The Hobbit movie trilogy and more recently starred in the NetFlix series, The Stranger.

Full disclosure: This does have open door intimate scenes.

This was a cute read and I really enjoyed it.

On the side, I don't know an Austin girl that would pick In and Out over Whataburger; LOL that may be worth a re-write.

I loved this book! Admittedly, I'd love listening to Richard Armitage read a phonebook. He's the reason I purchased the audiobook. Oh my sweet heavenly stars, his voice was sublime. More importantly, the story hooked me from the start. An American moves to Paris for work and falls in love with her translator. The translator is learning how to live after a devastating family loss. ALL THE FEELS with this one. I laughed out loud and swooned all over the place with this book.

I'm still learning to listen to audiobooks and generally find myself having to go back and listen when my mind has wandered. I'm happy to report that didn't happen with this book. I was so engrossed I didn't want to get out of my car after dropping my kid off at school. I literally sat in my car in my pj's, drinking my coffee, while I listened to this book. It was that good! I didn't want to stop unless I HAD to.

Richard Armitage did a great job but the other narrator sounded too commercial/news anchor-y for an audiobook. Also you don’t realize how cringe some of the writing is until you hear it out loud. Still a fun fluffy book
