The story is about a man, named Ralph, who is ill from cancer. His illness gathers tree out of four old friends back together - Ralph, Oliver and Marnie.
Long ago Ralph, Oliver, Marnie and Lucy were really close. But then something happens and their friendship is broken. Lots of things are left unsaid, lots of deep feelings are buried.
As Ralph`s disease increasis he wants Marnie to remind him the beginning of their friendship and also what happend that it fell apart.
Filled with love, pain, dissapointment, regret and betrayal this book reveals what happens when no body is sure what he actually wants and is scared to go after it.
But even if you do, what are you supposed to do when your bestfriend loves somebody who loves you....and you love someone else?
What happens when you are young and want to love and be loved, but you are afraid of losing something much more priceless - so is it worth risking the love of one friendship for the pure, uncoditonal love that we all need at some point?

In general compulsively readable, but I could have done without the final chapter: it felt rushed and very much out of character.

I'd describe it as a nice book. The writing style is amazing, and the story makes you feel cozy. However, there's no big twist or much exciting happening. You already know how the story will end, it's just filling in the bits in between.

goed geschreven qua stijl, maar ik vond het niet spannend en te (leken) psychologisch.

I found this book extremely slow and was not a book I was excited to pick up and read again. Took me ages to finish it!

‘So there you were,’ said Marnie, bending closer to Ralph ‘A burning star in a dark house’⠀

I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that. I cried a lot after I was done reading it and it’s not because I’ve had migraines the last few days. But today was one of the good days and I sat down to read something that I had no expectations about. I don’t know if I liked it. I can’t say I hated it either. But I will say that the main protagonist was not the main character no matter how much they tried to humanize Marnie.
