This sequel was really good!

It starts off immediately where the first book ended. We meet new characters, get to know the Gandry society better, and we see Gron and Ruth's relationship develop further.

I can't imagine never understanding, in any capacity, a loved one. My grandma doesn't speak English, but my dad translates for us. There's also the possibility of us learning the other's language. Ruth doesn't have any of that and I could tell how frustrating it was to communicate certain things. Not sex, obviously. That seems universal for all species.

The only thing I didn't understand was why Ruth didn't make an effort to try to teach Gron some English. I get it. It's hard to teach anyone a new language, especially without any kind of translator to help. But like in The Last Hour of Gann, the heroine and hero worked together to be able to understand each other. The heroine couldn't speak the hero's language, and vice versa, but they each ended up understanding the language they didn't speak. The heroine would speak English and the hero would understand, replying in his native language, which the heroine, in turn, would understand. I don't know. Maybe this effort was too convenient and it was a liberty the author took so that the hero and heroine would understand each other throughout the book without issues since they were main characters. Maybe VC Lancaster wanted that barrier between her characters because it added tension or something. Whatever the reason, Ruth and Gron never understood each other beyond the rudimentary hand signals, and even that was confusing most of the time. I kept waiting for a new advancement in the translator technology to make it possible to understand each other, but this wasn't the case.

Overall, this was a good sequel! I wasn't bored. I was entertained. I loved learning about Gron's culture and social rules. I also loved how Ruth tried her hardest to fit in with his family. Yes, communication is an issue, and it was frustrating at times when the characters wouldn't understand each other, but you could feel and see the love they each had for the other. The smut was excellent, too. Not gonna lie.

Would I reread this book? Perhaps just the smut.
Would I recommend this book? Yes!
Was I entertained? Absolutely.

Keep on reading, Goodreads fiends.

I was fascinated by this book and how the two characters navigated through a language barrier and cultural issues! Both characters were hopeful and caring towards one another. Really great!

i liked this series a lot (i read the 4) but she never got to actually talk with him. there was a lot they could have fixed like the eater cat thing could have protected her with the ML but nooo we had to kill it smh. she could literally understand that thing but not the one she was ment to be with. but it was good, i liked the universe and the characters.

Little slow.

This second story was a little slow for me but I still really liked it. Have to say, I’m super curious for what is going to happen next.

3.5 stars.

Damn it all. I jumped the jun back in Feb '16 and bought this right after I finished book two but never got around to it and now that we finally have KU here in AUS I'm super upset with myself for buying it back then when I could have gotten it through KU now. Serves me right for buying things and not reading them then I guess.

Anyway, this wasn't as great as book one but it was still pretty great. I liked it all pretty much up until the end when the Eater comes and then I wasn't quite as satisfied. I love seeing Gron's emotions play out and Ruth disappointed me with the pinching thing because it didn't make her any better than the alphas and I thought she wouldn't go that way, but she did.

Will read the third this month I'm hoping, didn't realise it was already March so now I'm behind on my March reading challenge but whatever haha
