The Catch is the second book in K. Bromberg's The Player Duet. This book is not a standalone story and needs to be read in order as it continues Easton and Scout's story. After reading the first book in this series I couldn't wait to get more of these two. This book picks up right where the first one left off, and I think fans will enjoy the conclusion to Easton and Scout's story as much as I did.

With an unexpected twist of fate, Easton Wylder doesn't know who to trust. Already struggling with an injury that could destroy his career, Easton has been battling his way back with the help of Scout Dalton. What started as Scout helping him rehab quickly turned into more, but now when everything has changed he finds himself questioning her loyalty as well as everyone he thought was in his corner. Can he get past all the obstacles thrown his way and figure out who is on his side? And what happens when he is forced to share a secret that could change everything for him once again?

I loved these characters in the first book and that was true here as well. I really felt the connection and chemistry between them, and it just continued to strengthen here. There were so many things going on, and at times we didn't know everything that was happening or where everyone stood. Even while things were up in the air though, it was clear that Easton and Scout's feelings ran deep and true. I never questioned just how much each of them cared about one another.

I will say that there were a few of the twists here that I felt were a little predictable, and I pretty much had things figured out ahead of time. That being said though, I still really enjoyed the story and the characters and was happy with how things were handled. I loved that Easton didn't let things just slide and that he stood up for himself and told those involved how he felt. I also really loved that when faced with finally admitting the truth to those he loved that he was also able to face it head on and share that with the world as well. He was inspiring and I loved the growth that he showed over the course of this book. I think fans of the first book will really enjoy this one as well, and if you haven't read The Player yet, you are definitely going to want to check it out before starting The Catch. K. Bromberg is a great story teller and Scout and Easton are definitely some of my favorites of hers to date. I can't wait to read more from her in the future.

I confess that I often categorize a book as being a sports romance if a main character is an athlete and there’s romance involved. Does that make it a real sports romance, though, even if the sport is only vaguely discussed and never actually played? I guess that’s up for debate. All I know is that The Player is the kind of sports romance that attracted me to the genre in the first place.

Easton is a major league baseball star on the disabled list. Scout is the physical therapist tasked with his rehab and getting him back to 100% and on the field again. This setup alone has the potential for an enjoyable but typical sports romance. However, the story has more sides than a hexagon (How’s that for using my limited memory of high school geometry?) and that’s what sold me.

I’m not even a fan of baseball, but it truly is integral to the story, and I loved being immersed in the mindset of a ball player. I could feel every twinge of frustrating pain Easton experiences; sense the sights and sounds of the stadium; understand the exhilaration of the perfect hit; and appreciate the fun ribbing and rapport between teammates. I also enjoyed Scout’s therapy sessions with Easton— the skill and confidence she possesses and the techniques she uses to try to heal him.

What’s a sports romance without a little chemistry? Easton and Scout have a palpable connection, and their romance is tender but also oh so sexy. I loved his patience while dealing with her many hang ups.

On top of all that, there’s the weight of parental expectations they both struggle under, rivalry, and secrets.

Want a romance you can sink your teeth into? This book has you covered.
Why didn’t I know there’s a cliffhanger, though?! At least I feel like there’s enough story left to fill another book. I’m looking forward to reading The Catch.

This book was absolutely fantastic! It exceeded all my expectations and wrapped everything up nicely.

I have to start off by saying I’m not a sports person whatsoever, but I do very much enjoy Ms. Bromberg’s writing. So I went way outside my comfort zone with The Player.
Easton is as cocky as he is talented. A superstar baseball player who is charming, very sexy and confident. Under the famous exterior, is a kind and caring man who know what he wants and is not afraid to go after it. The truly has a heart of gold. Suffering an injury that could stop his career, Easton promises to defy the odds and get back on top of the game.
Scout is feisty to say the least. I liked her. She’s proud woman and good at what she does. And like all good women, Scout is a bit stubborn too. She is also a women with secrets. Secrets she keeps along with her heart bottled to herself. However Scout is a no nonsense, stand her ground and go after what she wants kind of woman.
Ms. Bromberg has just done what I call the impossible. I enjoyed a sports romance. Even if she did leave the readers on edge with a cliffhanger ending. Her writing is masterful and intriguing. The attention to detail is amazing. The characters are deep, well developed and relatable. The plot is delicately balanced with just enough drama, romance and comical moments. I really enjoyed how the “little things” stood out.
Scout and Easton are fun together and good for each other. The passion, attraction and banter between the two put a big smile on this reader’s face. The chemistry they created is to the point of combustion. The Player is a super hot and fun read with some deep emotions at play!
Readers note: Being a non sports fan, I want to give Ms. Bromberg some major props on The Player. I didn’t feel overwhelmed with baseball. Yes it was part of the story but not the whole of the story. A truly excellent balance.

Wow, what a story.

K. Bromberg captivated me with a subject that I have little interest in and of story that had more emotions than I could have seen coming.

The Catch is a continuation of The Player. It is highly recommended that you read The Player to fully understand and enjoy The Catch.

Scout and Easton are both amazing characters. It's rare that I can relate to both lead characters in a book on such deep level. Their trials and tribulations together and separate just kept coming at them. Through heartbreak, pain, devastation, anguish and joy they found a way to make the pieces fit. Ms. Bromberg doesn't sugarcoat anything with Easton and Scout. The Catch is a raw, emotional and contains some amazingly deep passion.

The Catch hit me hard on many levels. If I go into detail i'm afraid I'll spoil book. Let's just say emotional complexities within the story are extremely well written, spot on and make you feel. Hard. There were moments when I had to set the kindle down because I could not read through my tears.

Ms. Bromberg’s The Catch is an emotional ride that leaves you with the best of feeling when you read The End. Ms. Bromberg totally gets my seal of approval!

Baseball romance at its best

Easton just wanted to rehab and get back to baseball. Scout just wanted to get the contract to rehab the team for her dying father. Once these two collide it is nothing but sparks, but will the love that Scout has for Easton be pushed aside for the deal that needs to be made for her dad. This was sports romance at its best. With great characters, emotions both high and low as well as a great rehab storyline that all sports fans can be proud of, this is a must read. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book in the series.

Cliff hanger, be sure to have both books!

Good story. Lots of interesting twists and tidbits to make you wonder what's going to happen next. Not crazy about the ending or the short chapters but the plot has me intrigued enough to see how Scout & Easton's story ends.

The Player by K. Bromberg
Narrated by Joe Arden and Andi Arndt
Sports Romance. 1st in a duet.
I have fallen so far behind on my audiobooks, I read this weeks ago, and I am just reviewing it now. I would have forgotten most books by now, but The Player by K. Bromberg somehow hit all my memory banks right, because I remember it like I just finished, a true testament to the author's talent. Another testament is the fact that I don't tend to gravitate towards sports romances, yet I loved this one, and it made me want to go to a game like I used to with my dad when I was a kid.

Easton Wylder is a baseball superstar. Playing on the same team his dad was famous for, he is living out the dream he worked his whole life for, until a shoulder injury benches him. The team hires the best physical therapist in the business, Doc Dalton, but it's not Doc who shows up, it's his gorgeous daughter, Scout, who is determined to prove she is just was good as her dad, despite being a young woman.
“Because there are women who are good for a quick fuck. There are women you would fuck, but are better in the friend zone. And then there are women like Scout. They make you wonder, make you crave them, and drive you absolutely fucking crazy because you want them when you shouldn’t. They’re an enigma. Confusing, alluring, tempting, and fucking perfection.”

Easton and Scout try hard not to mix business with pleasure. After all, Scout has never had a problem putting her hands all over other players, but Easton is completely different. She can't not be affected by him, the chemistry is too strong.
"Right now, I'm going to kiss you senseless, Scout, and I want to fucking enjoy it. So, for the love of God, woman, use those lips of yours on me and not on words.”

Easton was so perfect, possibly even too perfect, there is no way to resist this guy. He isn't even the player you'd think he is based on the book title. He's just an all-around good guy.
“He’s good with kids. And with dogs. And with his sick mom. And with spooked women. Is there anything this man can do to make me not like him?
Because I’m beginning to think he might need to do that, so I don’t start believing he hung the moon. Or stole my heart.”

One of my favorite quotes relates to him knowing when he found something good:
"I've played on grass my whole life, Scout. There's no need for me to see what's out there when it's green beneath my feet."

The thing I really loved about this book is how much their dads (and moms) played into who they are. Both of their dads cast a really, really big shadow, and they both struggle to emerge from under it as their own person, but being the child of a legend and pursuing the same career makes that a little harder, especially for a woman in a man's world.

There was some amazing banter and some really funny lines that kept me entertained and smiling.

But there was also some beautiful emotion, and I have a feeling part two is going to be super emotional.

I have some major issues remembering books. And while I remember the majority of the story, I had to re-listen to the end to refresh myself on the cliffy. There is no way I'll remember it by July, and will probably have to relisten again before the second comes out.

Likes:

  • •That Easton didn't fit the title of the book. He wasn't a player with the women.

  • •Great banter.

  • •The knowledge the author has of the game was clear.

  • •Amazing chemistry.

  • •How much each of their dads have influenced their lives.

  • •The story was not rushed in any way, I loved the pacing and the slow burn.

  • •Perfect amount of sex.

  • •The characters are very well fleshed out, memorable and likable.

  • •I can't explain it, but you can literally feel the warmth and love.

  • •A woman in a typically man's job, and she handled it with grace.

Dislikes:

  • •Cliffhanger (I had no idea). I can't imagine there is another full book of story, I felt like this could have wrapped up great in another hour. ***UPDATE: I WAS WRONG.

  • •It should be marketed as a duet from the beginning, but it is now.

  • •A few cheesy things (the zap of electricity when they touch the first time?)

  • •Easton just may be TOO good and perfect.

The Narration:

I love both narrators but sadly I think Andi Arndt is getting over-used, so I found myself mixing her up with recent characters she has played at first.

The Down & Dirty:

Despite not usually being a sports romance fan, The Player by K. Bromberg sucked me in and didn't let me go until the cliffhanger ending. I do wish I knew it didn't stand alone, because with my crappy memory, I now have to add a slot in June to re-read this to refresh my memory. Easton is pretty much the perfect guy, there is no way you can't fall in love with this GOOD guy. And Scout wants so much to help make her father's wishes come true, I just want to reach in the book and help her. Being a woman in a man's world, she has to work extra hard to prove herself, and I think it's so realistic how long she resisted the pull between them. I do need to know what happens and how they get to their HEA, so I will be grabbing The Catch when it releases on June 29th.

Rating: 4.25 Stars, 4.25 Heat, 4.5 Narration ***UPDATE: RAISED TO 4.5 STARS AFTER READING THE CATCH

I absolutely adore Easton and Scout's story so far. K. Bromberg has written another swoon worthy hero but without all the relationship dramatics that sometimes get thrown into a storyline and aren't always necessary. These two actually communicate like grown ups and I'm so for that! A healthy relationship in a book is just as addictive to me as a problematic one and the majority if the time it's more enjoyable. They definitely have their moments but they sort it like adults. It's nice to see the hero for once being the one who wants to sit down and lay things on the table instead of the heroine. The role reversal is refreshing.

That doesn't mean it's all rainbows and glitter because in the background they both have trouble with family and unfortunately Scout seems to have the worst end of the stick. I can feel the heartbreak that's about to come about in book 2 and I don't actually know if I'm ready to face that. Even though The Player seems to be a very quick sports romance the scenes are still intense when they need to hit the mark. The last few chapters alone were so short that they really created the build up for the final sentence.

If you want a baseball romance with a work romance/friends to lovers and a quick read then this is for you. Plus there's abs on the cover so...
