Who was the dummy who went into this book thinking it was a standalone???

My bad.

Easton Wylder WAS baseball. As the son of baseball royalty, the game was everything to him. So when he got severely injured, the team sent in the best physical therapist in the field, Doc Dalton. However, that's not who Easton got. Instead he was stuck with Doc's daughter, Scout, who was not only sassy, determined and capable, but she was absolutely gorgeous. Scout found that the more time she spent with Easton (and vice versa), the more she got to know the real him, the easier it was to fall for him. Could these two resist the temptation of crossing professional lines? If they stumbled, would they both make it to the other side unscathed?

This book was steamy and sweet with plenty of angst mixed in. Both Easton and Scout were operating under similar issues, burdened by the weight of responsibilities and high expectations. I personally think Easton had to work far too hard to get through Scout's walls and I'm still not sure if he's quite breached them. Regardless, I was thoroughly entertained by his efforts and how he had opened himself up to experience everything with her.

I'm loving where these two seem to be headed and I'm hoping for less of a back-and-forth, push-and-pull effect in the next. Please, let book 2 show these two as a united front! *fingers crossed*

Would have been better as a stand-alone, the ending really didn't push me to want to read the sequel. There was just too many issues for the characters to deal with presented in the book that I just never fully felt invested.

2.5? Rounding up because I respect Bromberg and I loved her Driven series A LOT.

I wasn't hooked on it but I read it to fill space and clean-slate myself between a series I finished last night and what I'm going to read next. It was all very deliberate.

It was enjoyable, light and easy. If you're looking for that, definitely do read.

This was okay, but not my fav. I don’t know if something got lost in translation (I read this in French), or if it’s because I’m pretty meh about baseball. I have read, and loved, most of K Bromberg’s books, but this one seems to be missing all of the intensity I usually look forward to from her. I’m going to try book 2 in English to see if that helps!

Almost dnf’d this and let’s face it i wish I had. This was not worth pushing through. Also why is there a sequel? What’s the point of dividing it into two books and add more unnecessary drama ?

This first book in a sports romance duet centred on the world of baseball and physical therapy, a perfect romance combination. Easton was not at all the kind of character I imagined from the book title and I found him to be something of a likeable gentleman once I was past his first terrible impression. Scout, his physical therapist was a competent woman in a man's world. This is a familiar trope in some ways, but it worked. I enjoyed the fact that these two were both blessed and fighting their legacies. The chemistry and heat was fun to read.

As always, K Bromberg writes with ease and flow, so I can't say exactly what it was that didn't blow me away with this book. There was definitely a sense of familiarity with the story but then I do favour sports romance and baseball has been a more popularly featured sport in the last year or so. I believed the connection between Scout and Easton but I didn't become fully invested in their journey. The family aspects to THE PLAYER were strong and brought some added emotion to the read.

This book will leave you needing more and I am invested in finding out what happens to these two and their supporting characters, so roll on July.

Oh my god. WHAT THE HELL???? I am losing my mind and my heart over here. This was absolute perfection. I just can’t get over this. I don’t think I want to. This was really good. K. Bromberg hit the mark one more time.

“And then there are women like Scout. They make you wonder, make you crave them, and drive you absolutely fucking crazy because you want them when you shouldn’t. They’re an enigma. Confusing, alluring, tempting, and fucking perfection.”

Easton was a beautiful man. He had a heart of steel. Unstoppable. This man had so much power and potential on the inside , it was amazing to feel it through the lines. I admired him. I felt his pain with every hurdle through in his way. It was heart warming. The way he loved the game vibrated through him pushing all the doubts away. This man belonged on the field. I could not believe how much he fought for Scout. I loved him more for it.

“But the happily ever after depends on what you put into it. The hard work, the listening instead of talking, the laughing instead of crying, the sticking it out instead of running away, the knowing that sometimes silence is best but having her wrapped in your arms can still solve a lot of problems. So, you can have your romance novels while I have my King and Follett and Patterson because I don’t want to read about having that kind of love someday. I’d rather be over here trying to take a chance at it in real life.”

Scout was a tough nut to crack. She was not easy at all. Far from it. She made Easton work for it. She was worth it. Despite all the hurt she was carrying on the inside. She had a heart of steel who knows love. She loved Easton so much even if she fought it hard. She could not deny it. I am confident that she would do anything for him.

“Clear mind.
Believe him, Scout.
Hard heart.
He’s slayed them for you before.
Clear mind.
He believes in happily-ever-afters.
Hard heart.”

These two tried to fight what their heart was telling them. They could not do it for long though. Easton thought Scout was just a prank. For Scout, Easton was just the player. However, the player grew to mean more to her than anybody else.

This was an okay read. I like sports romances and Scout and Easton were cute together. I like that she knew about sports, especially baseball and wasn't helpless. They both had a lot of baggage and have experienced heartbreak, so they fit well and were able to help each other heal. It wasn't a bad story at all, just nothing really jumped out at me. The narrators were pretty good and I liked the romance. Warning for cliffhanger ending!

Unique in that this is a two book romance story about the same couple so there's a cliffhanger.
