why do decent songwriters write bad poetry?

I’m glad Halsey is making money with her talent for words, because she’s very good at playing with them. She has a magnificent eye for color, imagery, and allegory. While she writes about specific experiences that I cannot relate to, I still find myself playing each scenario like a movie in my head.

Loved “A story like mine” but the rest wasn’t my taste

I’m gonna start this out with I’m not into poetry
But Halsey’s words are hauntingly beautiful and sometimes painful.
To quote the Boulet brothers “we’re not here to judge your drag, drag is art and art is subjective” but in this case change drag to Poetry. I think poetry is art and poetry is subjective. I refuse to judge someone’s art in a negative light. Because you can tell that she wrote these poems at times she needed to.

I should preface this review by saying I don't care much about the correct structure of poems and I prefer prose. Although it wasn't suited to my taste specifically, it was full of heart and to me, that's what matters most.

The piece that struck me the most was A Story Like Mine. I got chills reading it.

There are some really wonderful poems in here. They are not all *gasp* perfection. I listened to Halsey read them, so I cannot attest to how I would feel reading them instead of hearing them performed. Raw and self exploratory, with some wonderful moments of vivid imagery. My rating is technically closer to a 3.5, 3.75. But I rounded up to balance the bro-holes out here just menning in the reviews.

It's a beautiful thing to look inside the mind of such an amazing artist. Halsey's collection of poetry kept me coming back to read "just one more." I absolutely loved the collection.

Halsey is absolutely fabulous with words. I am very happy she decided to publish this book full of her poetry, bits that became songs, pieces of her self that we do not get to know otherwise.
It is filled with wonders and hard truths.
I highly recommend it.

Dang Halsey, just like her lyrics, these poems are raw. A few of these felt like I was literally being stabbed in the heart.

“Fun Girl” and “Wish You The Best” especially stood out to me. A very good read if you’re wanting to get in your feels.
