emotional reflective sad slow-paced

It feels wrong to rate poetry, so I’ll just list the poems I enjoyed the most: “I Am Angry Because Of My Father”, “Wish You The Best”, and “The Party”

“I hope you’ll stay. I hope you’ll stay. But I would leave me too, if I could.”

I love Halsey and have always been able to relate to her in so many ways. We are both POC, bisexual, bipolar women who happen to be born on the exact same day. But little did I know how much more we had in common, and how deeply her poetry and art would impact me. These poems were able to put words to feelings, thoughts and situations that I never knew could be described. I'm not a poetry expert, but to me, these poems were so raw, beautiful, complex and overall made me feel so understood. You can tell she is a lyricist with how she writes poems, and as a fan of her music, this made the book even better.

heart wrenching

I don’t know how I feel about this. Poetry is so deeply personal. This books seems to bleed the feelings of the author or be written in her blood. It took time to read.

Halsey is obviously a talented songwriter, performer, and poet. I rated this book a 3/5, because although I found a good number of the poems to be beautifully written, and compelling, there were some that just seemed to miss the mark. Additionally, as a collection, the poems eventually started to feel repetitive with a lot of the same themes and emotions and sometimes phrases recycled. I didn't mind the recycled phrases too much at first, as it felt like it connected the stories more, however, sometimes it felt as if the author just really liked that combination of words and tried to write a few poems that included it.

I do think this book was more successful for me thank Lana Del Rays poetry book as it was not so location specific - but both are so, so talented.

And again, I just want to hit on that a lot of these poems are well written and emotionally compelling. What may have convinced me to rate higher, would have been to listed to the audio-book rather than read it, as I know I didn't quite have the beat/style down for some and it made it harder to connect.

Lots of beautiful poetry but I didn't find it flowed.

I love Halsey and that is no secret I read this book 5 years ago when it came out and decided to read it again as an in between book as its short and simple.

Poetry is hard to review because everyone interprets it differently. I love how most of these poems inspired a lot of the songs on the Manic album. Some poems are repetitive and didn’t need to be included.

Some feel like rough drafts of poems or blog posts. Others are raw and real.

You can tell she wrote most of these during her breakup w g-eazy so it’s just sad.
