A fun extra book with little magyckal bits and bobs of the world of Septimus Heap. I enjoyed it immensely.

I'm calling this a "bonus book" because it's along the same lines as J. K. Rowling's "Quidditch Through the Ages"; more information for those that love the series. This book, in contrast to the first two Rowling bonus books, does not look as cheaply made as possible. (Ms. Rowling's writing was great, but I think Scholastic printed those books for $0.0001 each.) It's all in full-color, and includes bios and portraits of main characters, maps of various locations, brochures and pamphlets about various Castle attractions, spells, and diary excerpts. For anyone who's ever wanted to go live in the world of Septimus Heap, this book will be a treat.

One of the best companion books I've read! It makes me want to read the series all over again but I'm really looking forward to Syren which I hope to read soon! I especially enjoyed the Ramblings tour by Silas Heap. :)

Written in the vein of JK Rowling's [b:Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them|41899|Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them|J.K. Rowling|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1169776950s/41899.jpg|4195128], this book is designed to impart another layer to the Septimus Heap saga. And it does a decent job. The more detailed maps of the Palace and descriptions of Wizard Way definitely helped shape my mind's eye of the series, which will be helpful when the next book comes out. The rest of the content, including Silas's pamphlets; diary entries from Jenna, Septimus, Marcia Overstrand, Lucy Gringe, and Stanley the Message Rat; and other "informational brochures" was entertaining but didn't add any depth or new understanding to the series as a whole. It was a fun, light read though.

Currently reading Septimus Heap again and upon reading this little book I do want to give a shout out to the illustrator. Every book is consistent and every character is drawn to perfection. You have to love it when the illustrator actually reads a description of the people they are drawing. Love the growth and changes he makes and how he really does bring them to life.

I'm glad I have this book, I'm a little upset that it hasn't come out in paperback and probably won't.

Cute and fun if you are a fan of the series then this is a must for you to own. It adds some back story, more humor, and a little bit of of snark. I think that this is an amazing series of books, and I always recommend it to people who have recently finished Harry Potter, or are kids who want a big book.
