DNF 52% Spoilers in review
I wanted to love this book like I loved the first one, I really did, but I don't. When I read the first book, I was so excited to find something that caught my attention so quickly, I read it in one day! This second book though, has been sitting in my library for over a month at the 52% read marker. I finally opened the book again and decided to read the last 3 chapters to see if it was worth finishing the whole thing, and for me, it wasn't.
The book started out well, I was eager to read more of Ama and her story. But as the story went on, I found myself liking it less and less. There was a lot of back and forth with her harem, which at the end of the first book seemed to be behind them. I wasn't expecting half (actually most of it from what I read of the last 3 chapters) of this book to be about coming to terms about the bonds, but it was. I also wasn't expecting her harem to grow, I liked the ones we meet in book 1 and felt that the 2 additions didn't seem necessary. The fact that the devil was one of
them, made me lose all interest in the story.
I've read the description for the last book, and I feel like its been done so much in books recently. The fmc has fought so hard to prove her worth, her strength, and that she's able to over come past trauma and/or abuse/bullying, but yet gets kidnapped and is essentially out of the fight. I don't really care to find out how much of the next book is Ama trying to get the devil to understand her side of things and for her to get back to save the kingdom. I feel that, if she gets her way with the devil, then it's going to be anticlimactic and a huge let down of them all coming together to defend the kingdom. And if that doesn't happen, I can't say I'm intrigued enough to find out otherwise.

Well it just keeps getting better and more intense! The relationship development between these characters is perfect! While it's obvious there is a lot of tension to work out within the group, we're definitely starting to see how they fit together. There were a few twists I didn't expect, a lot of humor, and even some action (both smexy and fighty). The ending definitely left me with some questions. I'm really really anxious to find out how this story will end!

A small synopsis of how I felt reading this.
“Didn’t see that coming.”
“Holy crap, SEVEN?”
“Really, you can’t understand his frustration?”
“I feel bad for Nico, kind of.”
“This is a messed up take on polyamory…”
“OF COURSE, him too.”
I didn’t give this one 5/5 because I feel like there’s just one thing after the next of things happening and mates popping up lol.

The adventure continues with Ama and her fearsome mates... they learn more about them and find "additions" to their "situation."
Action, spice, and mystery is still on the horizon...

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)
After Ama’s father threw a portal at her and the guys to help her escape from the fray, they find themselves in a strange part of the realm. Unsure of where they are at, they begin to explore and formulate a plan to go up against the House of Rune.
Thankfully all of her mates are with her. But there’s still a looming war and several of their families have been taken hostage. So they know they need help to win.
When they run into a hybrid named Jace, he takes them to a hidden kingdom filled with hybrids who have fled the purebreds and made a kingdom for themselves.
As they try to recruit their kingdom for help, Ama is growing closer to some of her mates, feeling distant from others, and seeming to gain even more mates around every corner.

REVIEW:
I didn’t like this one as much as the first book. It was good, but not as good in my opinion. It seemed slower paced and there’s a lot of animosity going on in the harem.
Colt and Nico are both dealing with their parents’ deaths and taking it out on Ama. And Jace is a new mate who is determined to have her for himself. Basically the harem (like the realm) is at odds and not harmony yet.
Some of the guys are seeming to come to terms with sharing better though and that was nice to see.
I’m happy with who she lost her virginity to (Finias), and who else she chose to have sex with first (Finias, then Damien, then Adrien, and then Drayven in a Succubus dream). I thought this was a good order based on how the guys have treated her. These were the least emotionally combative of their mate status and the most loving. So they deserved to have their turns first. The sex is not the best I’ve read. Kind of vague and these scenes are over and done very quickly. But eh, whatever.
The looming war is put on hold as they visit the hybrid realm and try to garner their help. But there is still a lot of hatred towards purebreds by the hybrids (and vice versa). So there’s a long way to go. The next book will most likely have the final showdown with the House of Rune and I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes.
I will say I’m not very happy about two more guys being added to the harem. There’s already so much to work through with the original guys in the harem. At this point she has eight mates now and it’s so much. Too much. Honestly, six was pushing it for me. I typically like 2-4 guys in a ménage/RH. Any more makes it difficult for the heroine to form genuine connections with each of them. More is not always better.
Still, I like Ama. I like the world created here and I’m curious how it will all turn out. Not my favorite harem (too big, too much jealousy, not enough emotional connections with them), but I’m still intrigued and entertained enough to keep reading.
Overall it’s still a good RH. Not perfect, but pretty entertaining. I am looking forward to the conclusion of the trilogy though to see how it all turns out (especially with the guys who refuse to share).
