Maybe I just don't think this one is as great now that I'm older but it was so abrupt. Though the story is SO ahead of its time, so I can see why it was so cutting edge for so long.

I’m sure if I’d read this as a kid I would have loved it. I’m not sure why I never did, as it would totally have been my kind of book. But as an adult I found it kind of meh. The dialogue came off as pretty stilted, though I’m sure that’s partly due to its age, and I found the pacing a bit weird, particularly at the end. It’s delightfully imaginative, though, and the descriptions are really vivid. 3 stars, to me, means I liked it, but it was just OK.

I've loved this book since I first read it as a child, and I come back to it every now and then as an adult. I love how L'Engle emphasizes uniqueness as strength: "like and equal are not the same."

I know this book was written in a time when the fears of communism were rampant in the world, forced sameness and the death of the individual. And while A Wrinkle in Time is essentially about that, L'Engle spins those fears into strengths that a child can understand. I always finish this book feeling hopeful and glad of my uniqueness. I hope you do too.

Maybe I just don't get what all the hoopla is about? I read this because it was on a top 10 list of important science fiction or influential Sci Fi. Maybe it feels so simple because a lot of the "science" seems really abstract?

I don't know. I've read a lot of really good engaging YA and Youth fiction. This one to me seems really bland. I also went in knowing about a lot of the Christian overtones, and while it didn't put me off, it just seemed a little too on the nose?

Maybe if I'd read it as a kid or in school where we had to interpret it more for the deeper meaning I would have gotten more from it.
