This book. I don’t even know how to describe it. It blows my mind when someone is able to draw complex connections to seemingly unrelated issues. Her arguments are nuanced and well-researched, and I appreciate her embracing of duality and contradictions. Every time I thought she was getting away from the central theme of doppelgängers and the mirror world, she’d circle back and connect the dots. If I owned this book, I would have highlighted half of it. It was a very enlightening look into our current political climate and explained how so many are finding themselves down the conspiracy rabbit hole. But it was also so much more. Loved it.

One of, if not the, best book I’ve read. Genuinely quite addicting, I wanted it to never end. I cannot write a review which wholly encapsulates all my thoughts and feelings. Overall, Klein does an excellent job at analysing today’s complex (post-covid) political climate in a lucid and humorous manner, making you equally concerned and still hopeful.

Might give it another try later but I found the introduction terribly offputting. All this talk about how we have to be aware of the world around us, while referring to the pandemic in the past tense.

Naomi is so clever - weaving observations about current politics, historical issues with a personal touch. I really enjoyed this and learnt a lot.

Really well thought out and full with a bounty of great citations to cross read. A little depressing if the thesis is new to you, but if not, a very lucid summary of where we are and how we got here that shows the pandemic as part of history rather than exceptional.
