This had a slow start but after it got going, I really enjoyed the read. The highlights for this book weren't the romance for me. The prose was very good despite the older style. The characterization, especially of Jane, beautiful. I can absolutely see how groundbreaking this novel was at the time period based upon Jane's character and actions alone. I was absolutely sucked in by the writing and plot.

I did have issue with some plot points and some absurdity. I also disliked the heavy religion push throughout. But overall, a very worthwhile and enjoyable read.

The story of a woman who chooses self-respect over true love.

I think if I had more time to soak this in I would have enjoyed this more. But for what it was, I did find myself intrigued by the story and enjoying the events and how everything played out.

I love Jane at 10 years old and her inquisitive nature and sheer curiosity she shows throughout that age. I found myself losing interest as she turned 18 but the plot kept coming back and interesting me. I absolutely adored some of the things I didn't see coming because I feel like I always know the plot twists in other novels but not this one.
