I really didn't like Kylie, she was annoying. But I do want for see what happens now that it's going to be a boarding school. I'll read the second one if I don't like it then I'm done.

Oh my, these 5 stars were unexpected

I'm usually not a fan of love triangles but HEAR ME OUT, when it's done right its this delicious push and pull with my fragile heart that keeps me wanting more!

Plus the paranormal setting (always a favourite) we get witches, werewolves, vampires, fae, shapeshifters...

AND we get a camp/boarding school/academia of sorts that is also the best.

Overall I expected such a YA book that would inevitably make me roll my eyes, but I'm seriously addicted to this series.

Alright, well...this book was a bit of an in between-er for me. I would give it 3.5 stars.
Was it memorable? Not particularly, but kinda.
Was it addicting? Some of the time.
Does it have potential? Absolutely.
Will I keep reading the series? Yup.

I just think the entire novel was a flat line. It started out at the same pace that it ended. Introduction of characters....good writing....some mysterious stuff happening....pretty interesting....waiting for more....waiting for more....something kinda action-y happens....waiting for more...you want answers....and then it's over.

I honestly didn't realize that I was at the end of the book until I "flipped" the last page in my kindle.

I know it all sounds like I hated the book....but I was pretty interested in learning more. I feel as though this entire first book is setting up the second book to be absolutely amazing. We know about the supernatural world that C.C. Hunter has created, there is a love triangle just primed for some alpha male drama, a girl who has supernatural best friends and a growing understanding of her badass superpowers.... Yeah, I'd say that there's a lot of potential for the next book.

That being said, I think the next book is going to be a deal breaker. If it just doesn't completely deliver, like over-the-top deliver....I probably won't finish the series.

Worth reading? Sure.
Have I read better? Absolutely.

Kylie Galen knows her parents are upset; she was arrested at a party where drugs, alcohol, and no parents could be found. But she only had a sip, and she could walk in a straight line. Kylie thought she’d be grounded for quite a while, but she never imagined they’d ship her off to a camp full of freaks. (That’s what everyone calls them, and upon first meeting, Kylie is inclined to agree.) And to think her therapist is the one who suggested it.

But Kylie is in for a surprise. Shadow Falls isn’t full of freaks; it’s full of supernaturals, and she’s one of them. But Kylie’s even freakier than all of the other supernaturals; she is the only one whose brain pattern doesn’t reveal what she is. And she may sometimes see ghosts, have night terrors, and feel a bit weird, but Kylie refuses to believe she’s one of them.

Kylie just wants to find out she’s human, but she finds a lot more than bargained for—friends who feel more like family, a couple of love interests, and plenty of parental drama.

I first read this book years and years ago, in high school. I recently started rereading the series, and I still love this book and this series so much. Like, I want to go to Shadow Falls and be friends with everyone, except Fredericka, and immerse myself in this world.

The characters and the situations, besides all of the romance drama, seem so relatable and so real. Hunter knows how to create characters that feel like they could jump off the page and be people you could see and meet out on the street.

This was a good read. The whole idea of having the camp about supernaturals learning how to coexist and hone their powers was interesting. I liked how there's tension between some of the different species of supernatural because of issues from the past.

Kylie was a good main character. I liked her character development throughout the book. She described herself as a outsider and one who "floats" to different cliques. By the end of the book, you get the feeling that she has found a group of people that she is close with, even though she still doesn't know which group of supernaturals she belongs in. I also liked the development of Kylie's relationship with her mother in the book. The first few chapters showed how distant her and her mother are but by the end their relationship gets stronger once Kylie's mystery "staler" is solved.

The romance part of the book is okay. At times it was a little too much but it didn't really both me. Derek and Lucas both are great male characters and are different in their own ways. Lucas has history with Kylie and has that mysterious vibe. Whereas Derek has more of that friend but could be more than friends vibe to him.

Overall, it was a good read. The only think that I don't like is the writing style. It sounded like the author was trying too hard to sound like a teenage. However, I still got sucked into the world of Shadow Falls and I will definitely check out the next book in this series.

Un rythme trépidant, du suspense, de l'humour, une galerie de personnages hauts en couleur et attachants... C'est agréable et rapide à lire, malgré quelques clichés.
