This book is absolutely terrible. The characters are boring. Tomas is just a jerk that isn’t able to control his sexual urges. Tereza is a troubled woman that desperately needs the attention of a dominant man. This book isn’t about love or anything close to resembling love. It’s a book about infidelity. A boy who can’t control any urge for sex.

I set out to read this book in the summer. I admit that I had to start over reading it about three times before I could really get into it. If I were not reading more interesting books alongside it, I may have continued. A great deal of the book that I DID finish felt very pretentious and I didn't feel particularly connected to the main character. I did like Tereza and I honestly felt pretty bad for her. Unfortunately, the fluffy philosophical tings couldn't make up for the slow plot. I've heard mixed things about Kundera anyway, but at some point I would like to finish at least this book to see for myself. For now, as yet unrated but disappointed.
