While not as good as THE CABINET OF CURIOSITIES or RELIC, this still stands as a quality thriller. In this one, Special Agent Pendergast investigates what appears to be the work of a serial killer in a remote Kansas town. As always in Preston and Child novels, not everything is what it seems. Some threads carry over from previous novels, but this is basically a standalone novel. It starts a little slow, but the last third packs a nice wallop.
