This is still one of my favorite books.
I live in the middle of nowhere, basically surrounded by cornfields, so the story absolutely creeped me the hell out. Pretty sure I stayed up until 6AM reading it back in the day because it was just too hard to put down.
I went back and read every other Pendergast book and while I love them all, this one is something special.

I really enjoyed this one, so much more than the last one.
Like another reviewer said, Preston & Child held out to the very end to reveal the why of the crime.
Maybe I liked this one so much because Pendergast was on vacation, or maybe I liked it so much because I liked his assistant so much, as I am sure many of us do. Preston & Child did a real good job of telling the story of an abused teenager who was bullied by her peers and was going to make it out of her small town.
As I was listening to this story I was reminded of several by Stephen King including Under the Dome, and The Tommyknockers due to the small town setting.
Since only a few comment on my reviews, I'll leave it at that.

This Pendergast book takes us out of New York City to of all places Kansas! Some more great characters and a fun mystery with murders in corn fields and history. The authors are beginning to intertwine past threads from previous books and I am looking forward to seeing those seeds bear fruit in upcoming books!

A gripping story, this book was so hard to put down! The story is set in Kansas, in the small town of Medicine Creek, surrounded by corn fields as far as the eye can see. A ritualistic killing attracts the attention of our main character, FBI agent Pendergast. Pendergast is an intriguing character with eccentric manners and secrets of his own, and each Pendergast book reveals a little bit more of his backstory.
The killings won’t stop there, each one more gruesome than the next. The down has a dark past, and Pendergast sets out to find out if the murders have something to do with what happened back then. There’s not a dull moment in this book, and the excitement grows and grows until it’s almost impossible to stop reading! And the atmosphere of the town surrounded by corn fields is almost claustrophobic.
All in all, very entertaining and enjoyable. I recommend these thrillers to people who enjoy a dash of the supernatural with their books.

Ok, so we've gone fullblown Sherlock Holmes now.
This is the second in which Pendergast is actually a major character throughout the book. That said, this book continued in focusing on a new character as the MC while Pendergast was able to pass through at times best suited to the narrative.
Still a ton of fun and it continues to leave me curious as to what the next adventure could be

This is the forth book in Preston & Child's Pendergast series. Weird but really good. I listened to this in the car on my way over to E. Washington and skipped the third one because it wasn't on audibl. These are such well written books I'm sure I won't be skipping anymore.
This is one of my favourites of Preston and Child, I've read this one a few times now. Corrie Swanson speaks to me in a way most characters don't. Like Corrie I grew up in a small town, was the girl with dyed hair and piercings that no one else really did, always had my nose in a book and listened to different music. It was great to see her evolve in the book and her be so appreciated by Pendergast because she was different. The mystery itself was also a wonderful one in this book.
