How do these books keep getting better??? Seriously if you enjoyed the previous books in the series you'll love this one as well! I planned on reading a tiny bit once I got home from work and then doing some laundry before making dinner, instead I read for 2 hrs and couldn't put down the last third of the book until I finished the story. If you enjoy horror/mystery/thrillers and haven't checked out the Pendergast series, you 100% should, it's been one of the most enthralling series of books I've read in a while.

Great entry to the series. Agent Pendergast spends a busman's holiday in Kansas, in search of a serial killer. Intriguing mystery, great descriptions, and lots of chases.

The killer and the reveal were so unexpected and weird.

I started this one as an audio book, out of sheer curiosity's sake. While I agree with my dad's assertion that reader Scott Brick is one of the best performers out there for this sort of thing, I do get tired of changing discs, which is why I switched to the paperback halfway through.

This book is a fun combination of playful, gruesome, dark, and hilarious--a string of foul, grisly murders in a colorful mid-western town filled with equally colorful characters. This is the fourth book in Preston & Child's "Pendergast" series, which I didn't realize when I got it because I don't like to start in the middle of a series as a general rule. However, even coming into it completely blind, I didn't feel lost or confused of flailing at all. There are enough newcomers in the story and setting that a new reader won't have any trouble following the action, which is of course the sign of a great story, series midpoint or no.

The only reason I'm not giving it that fourth star is it's just not my kind of thing on the whole. I don't mind dark stuff, but murder mysteries aren't my cuppa. Still, this is a good one, if you're in for that sort of thing.

Is it possible to have another best in the series? It's so good that I want to cancel all my book requests so that I can read the next one then the next.

The feel in Still Life with Crows is like "True Detective" s.1 kind of creepiness. But methods of killing definitely top that of the TV show. Then there's Medicine Creek local history. Is the land cursed by local natives since 1860s? Or are there other motives for recent brutal killings?

Pendergast arrived at the crime scene alone with personal curiosity, then hired a local Goth troublemaker Corrie Swanson as apprentice. Sheriff Hazen & co, like any local law enforcement just seems to get in the way of the investigation, initially anyway.

This audio edition has spooky background music and Rene Auberjonois was marvelous. Loved it!
