when i first read the synopsis for this book i was so confused because I just finished the dazzling Heights tonight before but turns out there was a year break in between the books and this is what happened: leda overdosed because of all the guilt went back to rehab, and when she got back from rehab, she broke up with watt, rylin and huriel got back together, avery transferred to oxford for a year, and started dating max, Calliope and her mom stayed in New York, and continued with their long con the guy calliope’s mom married, and nothing really happened watt he was just worried about Leda and getting into MIT.

soon after an investigation starts that mariel was murdered (which we found out in the end of the last book). i’m just going to cut straight to the chase, if i hadn’t read a spoiler i would not have expected nadia to kill mariel. throughout the book the core four specifically watt and leda are trying to figure out what happened and get themselves clear from all
guilt. now when u say i wanted higher stakes, this is kind of what i was referring too.

i really hated how avery and atlas in every book somehow someway pull someone into a weird incest life triangle with them, this time it was max, he didn’t deserve that.

rylin went from being my second favorite character to like my fourth, it was so annoying the stuff with her and cord, all the back and forth it just felt pointless, it just felt like she was picking for problems.

i’m so happy that leda and watt got back together, he really does love her but leda is a strong girl, i was so mad when watt accused her of killing mariel (it wasnt malicious) but still.

i really wish calliope was more involved in this book, specifically with the core four. i felt like the whole point of her character was to kind of “replace” eris, and in the second book she did, but in this one it just felt like she was so separated, don’t get me wrong i loved the whole storyline with the annoying stepsister and her falling in love with brice, but i wish she was more involved with the investigation.

nadia’s behavior in this book was what i was really looking for, an evil robot willing to do anything for or to protect watt. now i do think her helping him get into mit wasn’t very evil, i still love that she did it. i just wish it was more an outward thing and not a secret held until the end.

i’m so happy with the ending with avery, she set the thousandth floor on fire, faked her death, and pulled a calliope and changed her identity for no one would recognize her. i’m also happy that she took the blame for both murders and that her and atlas didn’t end up together in the end, obviously it’s an open ending so we never know if they will get together, but i’m happy we didn’t get that because i was just revolted by the whole thing.

i’m really happy that leda healed and came to peace with everything that happened, katherine mcgee really put this girl through hell and back and i wish leda nothing but the best, she really is my number one girl. for all the ledas out there including myself, there is light in the other side of the tunnel.

overall i loved this book series, i wanted a book series like gossip girl and i finally got it, ill never forget this series. good bye from the thousandth floor, or at least, what’s left of it.

Plots a bit slower in this one and the mystery/suspense wasn't as good. I was a bit confused in the beginning because I thought they were going to come together and hash everything out, but they didn't. It felt like they should've just communicated with each other more.

dark tense fast-paced

This was a decent conclusion to the series; some of the twists were predictable - like it felt inevitable that certain characters would get back together.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

For me, Avery's story was a bit stale for most of this installment of the trilogy. Calliope went down a fairly dull path as well. Rylin, Leda, and Watt only just managed to hold things together until the last hundred pages when the plot pace picked up and the characters shone again.

*****SPOILER BELOW******

I would have really liked to see Rylin shuck off the half-baked boys who were defining her and head into the future solo. Other than that, the only off-putting thing in the series for me was the propagating of the 'bury your gays' trope.

I was loving this series but this book just didn’t do it for me. It felt like it dragged and any character development from the first two books seemed to be completely wiped out. Not the worst but define doesn’t compare with the first two books in the series.

This series is so incredibly amazing for a fun escape full of drama! Katharine McGee has an incredible ability to weave stories of the many characters to together, intertwining their unique perspectives to create a great story. And yet, even with so many main characters and perspectives, I did not ever feel that any one of them was underdeveloped or less important or left behind. Each and every one was well thought out and played a crucial role, as did the rest of this well thought out book. While the ending was less shocking than the first two books, it was still very dramatic and entertaining. This made the start with the end and work back up to it thing that has been in all three books less impactful than the previous ones. There were a lot of love triangles in this book, which many people don’t like, but I personally did like. I struggled the whole time to pick which person I was rooting for, since there was not an obvious choice or a clear favorite. I truly enjoyed all of the perspectives, but if I had to pick I would say Calliope or Avery are my favorite and Rylin was my least favorite. Other than the necessity of the inner thoughts of the characters that would be difficult to portray, I would say that these dramas filled books of unique characters would make a fantastic highly-grossing TV show.
