I was initially intrigued by this book due to its podcast aspect as I’ve enjoyed several other books around that premise. This one unfortunately was not one I enjoyed.
This book follows Bodie as she returns to the boarding school she attended 25 years before where her former roommate was murdered during their senior year. She begins to rethink the quick conviction that was made against the athletic trainer and starts to think about other angles the case could be taken from.
This book was one that I just did not enjoy. I had a difficult time getting into it and eventually switched to audio which helped a little but still was difficult to hold my attention. The main character I found to be very annoying and I felt that the story was jumping all over the place and trying to cover too many themes and topics. I wanted to not finish it several times, but kept going to at least see if my theory was correct in the end.

I’d say this is more 3.5 stars, because it really was an addictive listen - I finished it in a couple of days. But I truly didn’t understand why the book was addressed to Mr Bloch, I found the switch of suspects in the second part jarring, and so much of the moral tone of the book was overstated and saccharine (although I think this is a fairly common trait of modern books). The ending wasn’t necessarily predictable but a touch underdeveloped, particularly in comparison with how tightly spun the narrative was in Part 1. Not awful, but not mind blowing, and entertaining enough if you’re into the genre of true crime or mysteries.
