While I did love the past 3 books it took me over a year to pick up this next installment. The only reason being I was annoyed that the author quite obviously trying to reach her word count by describing in detail the plotlines from the previous books. Of course it also happened in this one. I understand how memories work but come on..
Not only that, but the events that are unfolding are described over and over again in Bea's thoughts. I'm not so forgetful that I need summaries not only of every last book and also inside one short book.
I like the interactions between Kesgrave and Bea and they, along with some mystery should be the focal point. The other characters are quite obviously caricatures for comic relieve. Which would work better if they are not overshadowing the main characters. Kesgrave was barely in this book and I really don't know what he sees in Bea at this point.

2.5 stars. This one wasn’t as exciting and fun to me as the others and I’m leaning towards not continuing the series.

A bit repetitive, but still enjoyable.
Spoiler
I was really worried this would go down an "evil gay villain route" but thank god it stuck with the violent, jealous straight villain. Some fun early feminist stuff too.cecilit's review against another edition

I tried to slow myself down but I devoured this book as soon as Amazon sent it through. It was like Christmas in April and I was not disappointed.
I love how Messina writes the Bea-Damien dynamic. It's so warm, compelling and heart warming. They have fast become my favourite fictional pairing and I can't get them out of my head
This book is charming, romantic, funny - and has pathos. I am so glad I discovered this series and this author and book 5 simply cannot come soon enough. In the interim I think I will just have to keep re-reading the first four novels and writing fan fic!!!
