I tried to slow myself down but I devoured this book as soon as Amazon sent it through. It was like Christmas in April and I was not disappointed.

I love how Messina writes the Bea-Damien dynamic. It's so warm, compelling and heart warming. They have fast become my favourite fictional pairing and I can't get them out of my head

This book is charming, romantic, funny - and has pathos. I am so glad I discovered this series and this author and book 5 simply cannot come soon enough. In the interim I think I will just have to keep re-reading the first four novels and writing fan fic!!!

Damian is so perfect. I just don't understand why it took the whole book for her to see him. Hopefully, she's over all this doubt.  The villain was pretty predictable.

The more I read, the more I adore these books. Bea and Damien make a wonderful couple. The supporting cast are all fun and delightfully absurd. The Duke played a much smaller role in this one, and his presence was missed, but there were still plenty of shenanigans and some witty banter.

Reading the series back to back, it's hard for me to say if this is the best or the worst out of 4 books.
The murder investigation itself is a cold case, it's not thrilling or clever, I could guess the villain easily, so this aspect could be the worst. However, this book is very much a dedication to Bea's personal story. While investigating her parents' deaths from 20 years ago, she learnt all the knowledge about her parents that she was denied from the relatives who raised her. How it must be a rollercoaster of emotions for any orphan to learn about their parents that way. My heart went out to Bea.
Although Bea and Kesgrave were now engaged, we don't see much of Kesgrave in this book, sad news for his fans but it is amazing how the author made his lack of appearance turned out to be another big leap in their relationship. He is the ultimate Omega Hero for our Alpha Female.
The "and the murderer is..." scene is the most epic out of 4 books. Just to show how much Bea had developed from the beginning till now. If you're invested in Bea's life, this would be the best book out of 4.

The start was a bit slow for me - But the second half deserves a higher rating...
Half way through the mystery and excitement really starts to unfold. However, because I did find the start a bit slow and repetitive in explaining the happenings of previous volumes, I must lower my rating.

This book is about Bea and while I read some missing the presence of the duke - it IS called A Beatrice Hyde-Clare Mystery, and not A Beatrice and the Duke of Kesgrave Mystery.
And Beatrice does so well in filling the pages and her feelings of grief, loneliness and sadness, as well as love, admiration and a bit of fury just transfers so well!

However, whenever the duke of Kesgrave does appear on the pages - it is an absolutely delight! I ADORE him! He simply is so sweet, kind and patient with Bea, and he has fallen HARD and is so very serious. He, with his views and love for Bea, just makes me all fuzzy.

This is such an entertaining cosy-mystery series and such a delight to read!

I stumbled upon this series and I’m so glad I did. From book 1 I have been drawn in by the characters and their delightful stories.
