Satisfying ending! A lot of tears were shed, even the Author Afterword made me cry. And if i had to describe this volume in three words, it would be "domestic gay uncles"
Chang Geng and Gu Yun are very sweet and lovely to each other. Their relationship is romantic. I love reading about them being lovey-dovey.
Shen Yi stole the show everytime for me! Shen Yi and Gu Yun dynamic and their bickering made me laugh everytime! I love their brotherhood so much.
All the side characters are great to be honest.
Main story wise, overall very enjoyable. The politics and war were intriguing to read even though sometimes i get confused and have to read the twice lol but i was never bored.
But I wish there were more stakes to be honest, or more things can go wrong because Chang Geng is too smart it felt like he has plot armor. He was successful with his every plans, there were almost no suspense. Because you know everything will happen according to his plan.
The thing with Wu'ergu, what's up with that? I thought there's going to be something more to that, especially with how morbid the process of creating it. But it hardly an inconvenience to Chang Geng...? Yeah he had nightmares and had to hold himself back for years, but we never really see him lose control... or it was never really seem like a huge main problem... you only need one easy treatment to treat it too?? even that one time when he met another wu'ergu, nothing more happen after that. Forgotten. I don't know, the wu'ergu plot line had so much potential, sadly the author didn't do much with it.
I'd gush about each one of the extras if i could, because i love the glimpse of after the happily ever after. i cried on most of them. But the last extra with Chang Geng is so abrupt and bittersweet but more bitter...? i don't understand why it had to end like that.

god I did enjoy myself with this series but I really do not like political drama and war stories if they are SO present in the story. So my overall enjoyment declined so much over the span of the series

what a perfect ending. a beautifyl mixture of angst and tender comfort. chang geng finding out what happened to gu yun was so heartwrenching and gu yun's tender embrace to comfort him was so cathartic. and their quiet happiness in the extras was so precious to read. as always, LOVE shen yi and specifically his moment with gu yun at his wedding had me tearing up. just so, so satisfying all around!
