I kept looking for existential meaning in this story. Is it a commentary of the 19th century disenfranchised? Could one draw parallels with today's “invisible” homeless or victims of racism or illegal immigrants? Then I gave it up and just enjoyed a great story. No underlying commentary. No politics. Just a good, fun read!
I did find interesting the imagining of what happens when a single impossible change is introduced into the natural order. Wells' conclusion seems to be that invisibility is not as great an advantage as one might imagine. Running around naked in January is miserable seen or unseen. Mr. Wells came up with the idea of Naked And Afraid long before TV reality shows were conceived.

Couldn’t get into it, think I’m sick of reading stuff older novels and want to read more modern fiction for now.

Somehow, this was not what I expected even though the title perfectly does justice to the story. It was decidedly delightful, with intriguing characters and a touch of science. It truly is a story about am invisible man and through him we explore the human condition.
