currently re reading the entire franchise and I can see why this series had a weaker start. still a ton of fun however

first time reading this volume. i flicked through it as a child and i swear to got the scene where goku literally takes bulma's panties off to check why she's so "flat" there has creeped me out ever since. in general bulma, who is 16 years old, is WAY too sexualized on this volume. she's often showed naked, swoon over, creeps are lusting after her. ugh. grown ass men, at that. yeah the story about them meeting others and trying to find the dragon balls seems fun but it's always slowed down by creepy men being ... creepy men.

It's fine and I won't mind continuing the series, but I can certainly understand why people say this is outdated in some aspects and I do agree on this at certain points. That said, at least the panty-fetish and fanservice feels, oddly and awkwardly said, less icky and just plain up stupid compared to other series I have recently attempted to read which makes it a tad better albeit it still feels awkward.
Note that while Dragon Ball and PKMN were the only two animes in my country for years when I was a kid, until Digimon, Beyblade and Yugi-Oh made an entrance, I was never a fan of Dragon Ball back then and honestly speaking I don't think I'll become one now either. I will however read the series because I always wanted to read it. My only dilemma is whether or not if my library can get all volumes, because I'm not sure if I want to pay 155 us $, 135 euro or 115 £ for the first box set/series. Shelf space and money are limited and I have other priorities than books/series I'm not sure I will ever reread.

I'm not gonna lie: I've never liked the original series. When I was a kid my favourite series was Dragon Ball GT 'cause I liked their characters more (Trunks, Goten, Pan) but GT doesn't have an manga edition.
Soo, it wasn't a good idea for me to read this series. I only liked the Majin Bu Chubby's Arc. I don't series with a lot of battle/fights, it's better to DNF now. I'm not the target reader
